Hi peeps,

I’ve just bought my first project Landy.

A few issues to deal with, but one that I need to sort out is that all doors have different keys... also one door is rotten, so I want to replace it.

question is- Can I install a newer push handle door for the rotten one, and then have the other lift handle locks all replaced so that I have one key set! Getting irritating already trying to work out which key is which!

thanks for any input,

mark

It would be easier and look better if you changed both doors. Also I believe thrift handle door striker is different to the push button striker, I could be wrong, and if I am, someone will correct me.

Yes the strikers are different. I would try and keep the lift up handle doors though. They look better and IMO are superior to the push button design.

Hhmmm jury's out on that one- I got a v8 at work and it’s push button. Something a bit more secure about them I feel. That might be only because the Rotten one is so loose that it was rattling like a baby in a cot down the m25 when I picked it up ;)

point taken about keeping it all as one. Just annoying that one is bad and one is perfect...does anybody know though if it’s feasible to have the same lock even though different doors?

You can change the barrels on the lift/push button doors so you only have 1 key. Think there is a slight change on 300doors

push buttons get knocked off when green laning down here so I use lift ups ;)

Lift is more in-keeping as you'd find them on a Series II thru III ;)

Also they don't get covered in mud being flicked up from the tyres and don't get broken/snapped/ripped off on trees.

Looking again at the lift door, it’s more rotten around the window, so I might just restore that. Can anybody confirm that the replacement window section is the same one that is found on flea bay as a series 2/3 ‘door top frame’

cheers

Yes

Hi guys,
Further to Pappasmurfs reply, I had a conflicting response from the flea bay seller.
He said it might be different....I’m getting confused! I’m sending a picture of the item, and our email correspondence. See if you can make sense of it!
Here is what I believe is the window that will fit on top of my 110 push handle door;

Here is my correspondence with him;

Your brainpower will be appreciated!

Firstly, the 2 part doors tend to be cheaper, not more expensive. Unless you are buying the MOD door tops, for some reason. I am not aware of any difference between the series 3 top and the early 110 door. Except hinges maybe. Which wouldnt affect you. I hate to suggest them, but have you spoken to SP4x4. They door a series 3 style door kit for Defender.

What doors do you actually have???

When you said lift up handle doors I thought you meant these:

However are you meaning you have removable door tops? If so, what do the windows look like?

Very early 110's had sliding windows like this (note the window is diagonal), these are very much like the military style door tops used by Land Rover:

A Series 2/2a/3 door top will physically fit, but uses different glass:

Thanks very Much for recommending SP4x4 .... they are really good value. Some items I’ve seen are 59% cheaper than flea bay!!!!!

That should have said 50%... I’m really not precise enough with the calculator to get to 59%, but you get my drift ;)
Just be careful with SP4x4, their customer services are ****e, and the parts aren't well packaged. But yes, they are cheap, see if you can collect rather than deliver and you might get better service.
