Hi Everyone,

Introduced myself on here a while ago and then sort of disappeared haha.

I Find myself in abit of a sad predicament. Recently went out with a mate of mine laning in wales and I just fell in love with it. so I bought myself a lad rover and went out a couple of time with him, spent abit of money on preperations and then my mate decides to sell up. Went out by myself last week and well got so catastrophically stuck in a ford that I had to go find a farmer (2 miles away) to come and give me a tow. :p

So in the long and the short of it anybody in the slough/Berkshire area who would fancy getting muddy next week? :)

Cheers

There are loads of lanes in West Berks around the Compton & East Ilsley area.

You can also drive the Ridgeway from Streatley (J12 M4) this time of year. Drove it last weekend - a bit overgrown in places but otherwise in decent condition. Might be worth taking a decent pair of secateurs with you if worried about paintwork.

If you take the left hand branch just before East Ilsley and cross the road, there's another lane (Dennisford Road) that goes under the A34. When you hit tarmac again, turn right to Stanmore. At the junction at the end of Stanmore theres another lane straight ahead which you follow, turning left when you reach Red Lane.

There are then lanes all the way down to North Heath near Chieveley (J13 M4) but some of these have seasonal closures.

A good 10 miles or so of lanes in total.

Did you do the lanes today?

I did from Stanmore down to North Heath and beyond, ending up by the M4. Good job I'd packed the bow saw though, came in handy on a broken overhead branch.

Word of caution though. At the southern end of the seasonally closed section that runs parallel to Peasemore are a couple of concrete bollards which were quite nicely camoufaged amongst the undergrowth. They are just wide enough to let through a Disco with tree sliders but could be tricky with wide tyres and spacers. You don't want to have to reverse back up he lane!

Ideally I'd get all my transmission rebuilt but lacking the cash at the minute! Plus the fact that the Disco will be my main form of transport in a couple of weeks means I'm not so keen on pulling it all apart for a while yet. Think some secondhand spare diffs, halfshafts, gearbox and transfer box could be on the cards.

But when you're fixed and plan to do this area again, send me a PM.

Same to sam0112 and sprogthedog. If I'm free I'd be happy to join up with you. Always best to go in pairs just in case.

Cheers,

Chris

You can squeeze through them with widened wheels the bollards sort of budged a bit if its the lane I'm thinking of ;) snug it was :D

i dont have tree sliders but just have a disco running standard height. i have sterring guard and qt guards for underbody protection will i make it??? would love to go out with you guys.

LR23, you'll be fine.

Mine's std height running 235/70/16s with steering and diff guards so as you've pretty much got the same then you shouldn't have a problem . But obviously with tree sliders fitted mine is just that bit wider and 'kissed' one of the bollards.

Be interested in joining an outing soon! From the camberley area with a lifted and mid tyred disco, removing the arbs and making a DIY snorkel this weekend!
