Evening All.

After recently selling my Classic 1985 Vauxhall powered Mini with a light tear in my eye I might add (Sad for a 37 yr old bloke I know) , I have bought myself a Landrover Defender 110 Monster truck thingy. Looking forward to having a bash around in it in the back end of Dorset and beyond sometime soon. It's a Special vehicles Build and comes with alsorts of bits and pieces :-

Qt trailing arms
2 inch qt spacers
Pro comp lift kits with suspension
Full snorkel kit
Pto driven winch
Huge 37x13.50x15 godzilla tyres
6 inch wheel arch extenions

Funnily enough it's the same path my Dad took when I was a nipper, he went from Mini to Landrover so it's feels right that I am doing so too.

So what sorta things can I look forward to and what kinda tarting up can I do to it to make it that bit more special?

If ya wanna go greenlaning Yu wanna get some decent tyres on it they'll just rip the lanes to peices. They'll be great for pay and play but a nitemare on the lanes.

actually im gonna disagree on you wiv that one mate. i got some big baja claws on mine, and do less damage than i did with smaller bf muds

tyres like that give exceptional grip, if it gets a bit muddy you will keep grip, and your wheels arent going to lose traction, so you ent gonna go spinning your wheels. therefore on muddy lanes they arguably cause less damage than other tyres as some of us proved on a lane back in the summer when i trundled through it fine with mine, yet b3aker on his 110 with ATs was slipping, sliding, and getting stuck. that damaged the lane, whereas i didnt

you would be suprised just how little damage wide relatively aggressive tyres do, they grip, spread surface area so they dont bog down like others, and generally dont damage in my experience

forgot to say :welcome2: dude, bloody nice looking landy you got there! like the tyres, similar pattern to mine cept you got more side biters

What is this Green laning malarkey? Back in my home time of Stoke we never had lanes of green. Just cobblestone backsies with white dog crap and busted bikes.

greenlaning is driving along "greenlanes" - as in unclassified roads and byways - and probably others i havent thought of. basically rural routes through all manner of countryside which are legal to drive on, kinda like footpaths are for feet, and bridleways are for horses, byways are for everyone including 4x4s

its a good way to spend your time, its good fun, you can get a small group together and have a good day but it is not usually hugely challenging off roading, other than a few exceptions. generally speaking lanes that are excessively muddy or easily damaged are left alone, because other members of public use them so a bunch of 4x4s ripping up the countryside generates alot of bad press and results in closures

theres plenty of people local to you in dorset - which incidentally is close to one of the exceptions to the greenlaning rule - salisbury plain. theres a number of organised trips to the plains, im sure the lads would be happy for you to tag along on one of the outings so you can see what its all about and get a feeling for your landy, which should be exceptionally capable off road in the right hands

There is also a fine line between green laning and giving Anti's ammo for closing down our rights to the lanes. Also peoples view of what is drivable (morrally) differ greatly. You can be most unpopular with landy/greenlane/local people if you aid in any way the closure or restriction of a lane like what has happened recently in our area. There is almost a witch hunt going on for a couple of LR's by local people that soon will only be allowed to use a lane in summer because of a couple of idiots.

A good starting point is that if a standard LR (even a gaylander) on muds can drive it without causing damage then its good to go. It greatly depends on lane by lane basis, weather and ground conditions on the day weather it should be driven or not. Local knowledge is king here.

I suspect with your tyres and lift your car is more suited to Pay and Play sites if you want to have some terrain to stop your vehicle then P&P is where you need to go. Private organised off road do what you want kind of thing. If you enjoy a drive in the country then Greenlaning is always good fun.

Welcome! by the way.

Driving style is also mostly to blame for damage to lanes aswell as being unfamiliar with the vehicle and lack of driving technique. local knowledge is key to keeping everyone happy an legal. Remember that greenlanes are indeed unclassified roads and you must conform to all highway rules and regulations. There was a case a long way back now but a copper tried to do some people for dangerous driving, no sealt belts, and towing his mate on a highway when they were out laning. Never did get the outcome but I remember they were twots anyways and deserved to be done as they went off pist before the copper got there.
