Hey folks about to service my 96 4.6 hse fuel filter, oil filter, spark plugs, air filter.
Being the first p38 I've owned is there any common things to look out for when servicing these or is it as straight forward as any car?

Also any oil anyone would recommend?

Cheers
Steve

coupe of things I did on mine that you might want to consider

- when you take out the plugs, be careful, they can be really tight & when you do change 'em consider iridium ones as they last a lot longer (40,000 miles plus)

- change the filter & fluid in the autobox (if yours is an auto of course) this totally transformed mine

- change the 2 pollen filters

- consider changing the brake fluid

that's about it - all these jobs are dead easy

Important on these to keep everything topped up especially the coolant.
2 schools of thought on oil changes, either used the best oil you can or use cheap stuff and change it often. same with the autobox, oil and flter change transformed they way mine drove but others have had all sorts of problems after disturbing a perfectly happy gearbox.

If it is Auto, definitely gearbox oil filter, makes a world of difference. Standard air filter. I bought a K&N and went back to standard. No difference except the price.

LR schedule calls for autobox oil changes at 30k mile intervals. Download RAVE the LR workshop manual, it includes the service schedule which you can print off when you do it so nothing gets overlooked.

Buy a quality oil filter. 5 litres of 10W/40 Unipart semi-synth from The Range - just £15. plus they sell 1 litre bottles too.

Hi,
If you have an interest into, I can e-mail you the maintenance schedule. It is for P38 from 1999 (VIN XA410504) on, but you can at least get inspired from it if you own an older one as me.
