OK so I have helped my son buy his dream 2002 Series 2 TD5 Disco. FSH ,85K on the clock, one owner with no obvious signs of rust or leaks but I am no mechanic. What sort of things should we look out for and what are the common faults. The sunroofs are manual and not leaking, are they meant to be tilt only?
ps Immediately after start up there is like an opening/closing noise for one second under the dash area driver's side? Doesn't sound like anything serious but was wondering what this might be?
Also we have no radio code if the battery is disconnected. Will this cost us to get from the main dealer? If too expensive may try to contact the previous owner.

There is a list of D2 issues that u can make up from posts in the forum, but could be a bit late now if as u have already purchased the vehicle but the list is there if u do a search on purchasing a D2.

The sunroof function is tilt first and IIRC, from my Rover days, after pressing the button a second time u can continue to open the roof fully. Info is in your owners handbook.

A LR main dealer service dept. will or should be able to give u the radio and the emergency access code to remobilise you engine if the security system gives a problem.

As said above . Free from dealer . And if you take ID and log book in and ask they will give you a print out with the key code and EKA code.and all details about the car . worth having

The D2 radios retain their code in flash memory, they don't need it reprogrammed.

If it is a non-LR radio that is obviously different.

Most D2's can have their details looked up on Microcat, given the registration or VIN number. I can do that for the OP if needed, as can anyone who has a working Microcat on their PC.

Microcat has two levels of information available, but not all were entered for a given vehicle. Trim details, build information, engine/gearbox, paint, accessories etc etc.

The EKA code is only available through the dealer though.

the funny noise on start up is the abs/tc self check and you may also hear a constant wiring by you rright knee, this is the little fan that blows cabin air over the climate control sensor.
