It appears that the new MOT starting now and being phased in upto April may well include a check for non OEM performance add on boxes/ chips!!!
If a vehicle should be fitted with a cat and is removed it will fail!

As well as ABS light, SRS,ESP and brake fluid warning and many more!

New MOT test changes for cars in the UK.

i wouldnt read too much into that its not an official document and they say themseles...,It's not fuly understood how ECU systems will be checked as yet, but a car will in theory fail the MOT if it is found that it's ECU unit has been illegally modified or 'chipped'.

mmm in theory..

and they say possibly...

my mate works for an mot testing station and they dont know fook all about it

The reason I looked into it is because a friend of mine who owns/runs a test station has advised me the he will have to buy some sort of kit via the Ministry for testing ecu's, personally I can't see how but it would not suprise me.
Looks like I may have to buy a cat....................possibly;)

I wonder who will be liable for repairs if an MOT tester accidently fooks up an ECU whilst looking for an upgrade that may or may not be there..........

On the subject of testing............

Was told yesterday that towbar wiring will be tested soon................................................only the testing gear that is to be used doesn't work because it's LED based and won't trigger the car's telltale light's or beeping thing that say's you have a trailer on which would be a fail!!

i actually test mine every time the trailer gets hitched up.....

imho its dangerous driving without the right turn indicater working,

the rest is pretty optonal though

Got a friend that does MoTs for a living. The only thing he is 100% sure of at the moment is the trailer testing. BUT if you REMOVE the towbar, it won't get tested.
