Have looked at a few turkeys over the past few weeks but finally found this one today. Knocked a few quid off it and got a new back door thrown in (the one fitted is rotten). Its 112k miles and mechanically sound. Full land rover service history and no major rot except the back door. Chassis is soild, not one repair on it. Paint works faded but hey-ho, fancy getting it redone in rioja red.

Collecting it next week:clap2:

And so it begins!

Have had the 90 48 hours now and so far 1 headlight bulb gone and found a leak on the steering box.

I can see my weekends being taken up with maintenance work! On the plus side, i have a new set of BFG ATs on modulars being delivered tomorrow.

Great stuff, get that rear crossmember treated and painted ASAP though, and make sure the rest of the chassis is adequately protected.

What year is it and how much did it set you back out of interest?

Rear crossmember was treated and painted this afternoon.:) I did find a couple of V small repairs on the chassis today and a small (1p size) bit of rot in rear crossmember.

Will have to get waxoyl done before next winter.

Its a '97 reg and i paid 5750 for it. Paid a little high but i kept missing out on good ones as other people were offering loads of cash for them. Mechanially its sound. Have got every receipt for it since 2001 all from same land rover dealer.

You need to keep the faith a little with a recently bought secondhand landy. I known mine had a good service history up till the last two owners but they did very little to it in the four or so years they owned it.

So far I have done the following (most of it quite necessary):
Full service and oil change.
New timing belt and tensioners.
New serpentine belt and serpentine tensioner.
New exhaust system, ditched the CAT.
Removed and cleaned the inlet manifold, blanked the EGR, replaced the hose.
New drop-arm ball joint and the other bushes on steering.
New handbrake cable.
New discs all round.
New pads all round.
Two new calipers front and rear.
Replaced many rusty screws and door mount bolts with stainless.
New J-nuts in the bulkhead hinges.
Fixed the windscreen washer.
Fixed the brake fluid warning.
Removed and fixed the squeaking clutch pedal.
New clutch master and slave and hose.
Stripped, brushed and painted the rear door with rust bullet. Welded the split caused by the wheel mount. Replaced the ally strips.
Replaced the dum-dum round the window.
Removed, stripped and resprayed the wiper arms.
Replaced the rear door lock.
Removed and stripped, repainted the strip by the back door. Refitted with stainless screws.
New rear diff oil seal.
New hub oil seals and wheel bearings all round.
New fuel lift pump.
New gasket on thermostat housing.
New brass radiator plugs.
Brushed and painted with two coats of rust bullet and blackshell 1/4 of the chassis (it's too cold to do the rest!).
New mudflap and mount on the front.
New headlight surround.
Refurbished the rear door card.
Fitted a stereo (the most important bit).
Stripped out the EGR unit from the middle seat.
Stripped to bare ally, primed and repainted the windscreen mounts, caps (which need to go on over the weekend). Will fit new seals at the same time.
New hinge kits on all the rear door hinges.

** almost all genuine or OEM parts, which spanks the back pocket a bit **

It still needs a new radiator when it gets warmer, which will mean a complete flush of the cooling/heating system. Plus a new cross member, and a fuel filler hose, windscreen and windscreen seal, the side windows need to come out over the summer and get refurbed and the rest of the chassis painting at some point! The shiny bits will have to wait.:(

And mine wasn't in too bad shape when I bought it (or so I thought)...

Thats not far off how my list is going to end up i think.

This is what ive found so far.

I have a new rear door to collect, repaint and fit.
Replace rear nearside reflector.
New rubber seals (Windscreen, bulkhead, doors).
Offside headlamp
New steering box
Replace Sump gasket
Replace radiator

I feel the list may get bigger!

No doubt it will, I can't stress what a good idea it is to do a full service (all oils, filters) and replace the timing belt with a genuine one. It's like starting with a blank sheet again then and you'll have a fixed point from which you'll know when to renew oils from again.

Just a thought, good luck with the repairs. How much was the rear door by the way and where from?

Obe word of warning/advice, quite often things sold on ebay (I mean new bits like rubber seals/filters etc) are NOT cheaper than buying from elsewhere. Rubber door seals cost me £11 each from Devon 4x4 and they were at least £15 plus postage on e-bay!
