hi ive just fitted a new engine in my p38 4.0l due to a porous block, finished it today having trouble bleeding it up had it ticking over with top pipe off that goes to expansion pipe water seems to be running out the top of the rad fine heaters blowing nice and hot soon as i put the pipe back and cap back on onlt manage to get round the block before the temp is in the red, any ideas????? didnt think these were to bad to bleed up, i have a thermostat on its way so if it makes it here before i loose light will fit that see if it makes any difference,

when the pipe is off are you getting water flow, or steam out of the rad..
water is flowing no steam at all its not coming out fast tho not squiting and hittng the inner wing like i thought id should just dribbling out really, just fitted new stat and no difference at all

if you put new water pump on it can only be the rad. have you put anti freez in yet. if not i would be tempted to fill it up from the top hose, both rad and block..

could be a blocked rad if you didn't check it. take it off, lay it flat and fill it with boiling water and check for cold spots.

didnt fit new water pump with engine as the old one seemed ok,its really weird even with the old engine faulty block it ran ok till the coolant level dropped then it started to overheat but when topped back up and bled the water squirted out the top of the rad, now water is hardly coming out of it when i connect the pipe back to the expansion tank it looks like it going to clear through i get a few bubbles coming out of the tiny hole in the filler neck of the expansion tank then just as it starts to squirt water back into the tank it stops and bubbles just come up through the water not sure if its coming from the pipe that goes to the inlet plenum or not but thts the only other pipe i can see goin to that part of the tank, but also when i blow down the top pipe into expansion tank some air comes through the tiny hole but manly just blows bubbles in the water does that pipe take two routes bak into the tank??

when its been run up i felt all round the rad and couldnt feel any cold spots, when i was flushing the system tho i put all the pipes back on and filled it with a hose pipe left the small pipe off that goes to expansion tank and the pressure to get the water to come out of the top of the rad was quite alot i covered the top of the tank with my hand while th hose pipe was in it and the water was squirting out passed my fingers before it started coming out from the small pipe on top of the rad, is that right would it take that much prssure to get the water flowing??

i dont think so, when you first started it did you leave the cap off, turn your heating on hot full. what happened then..

yeah started it with the cap off and heators on full on hot, waited for all the bubbles to clear coming from top of rad when water was flowing out put small pipe back on and left it ticking over with cap off temp was in the middle stayed the for ages didnt move coulnt get the water to be squirting back int expansion tank but was dribbling slowly in there the heators were red hot so thought cant be an air lock any where, all pipes were warm (both matrix pipes, top hose bottom hoses) so put cap on and took it round the block within a few minutes temp rose up to the red.

top hose was hot and did have pressure in it but wasnt rock hard asif it would be if h/g had gone and if i left the car to cool for just a few mins the pressure got less to the point where i could take the cap of with out water gushing out

yeah thats what i was thinking trust it to be bank holiday tho i might just put a water pump on it at the same time just so i know its right just dont understand how the temp stayed normal for longer when it had a poorly engine lol another 4 days without a car now bad times lol

ill see what i can do ill post on back on here when i get a rad sorted and if it cures it or not thanx for the advice
