In Kent under a 90
Morning everyone,
I picked up two doors for my 90 over the weekend, they are from a late TD5 - leccy windows and central locking. Whats the best way to get over this problem as my 90 is an 87 and no creature comforts.
Is it a case of connect the leccy windows to a switch and there you go?
Can I just use the doors via the key and not worry about the central locking? I don't mind doing mechanicals, but am absolutly hopeless with electrics, please help. Thanks.

speak to trewy as he had a set which he fitted. dont think its that straight forward as there are a lot of wires. Dont think he connected the central but deff has the ellcy windows.

I didn't bother with the central locking - there's a lot of work involved in getting that working. The key works fine in the driver's door, but there is no external lock in the passenger door, so that has to be locked / unlocked from inside, using the button. You could probably fit a lock by changing the handle, but I didn't bother.
If you look at the wires coming out of the door, there's 2 thick ones and a bunch of thin ones. The 2 thick ones are for the window.
The window goes up and dowm when the polarity is reversed onto these 2 wires. I used a momentary action on-off-on switch and 2 double pole normally open (DPNO) relays for each window. (When switching between directions, you need to avoid momentarily shorting the battery!).
If you feel confident to wire it up, I could have a go at drawing a wiring diagram for you. If not, you might be better off getting an auto electrician in.

Hi Trewy, thanks for that. If you could do me a quick diagram I'll be ok to follow that. If you could give me as much info about the double pole switches etc that would help a great deal as thats were I tend to loose the plot. Youre a star as always

ears the circuit I used.
I'll try to post links to the components in a minit.

No doubt Daft will be along in a minute to tell you how to do it easier / cheaper, but never mind, I tried.

I mounted the relays and fuses on a piece of plywood screwed to the inside of the battery box - there's plenty of space in there, but you might want to make sure it's watertight if you go wading.

I should mention that wiring the motors up in this way means that the motor runs at full power all the time that the switch is pressed. There is no protection for kiddies heads or fingers stuck in the window and you shouldn't keep your finger on the switch after the window has reached the end of it's travel.

Sorry guys, my spellin. My daughter lives there. What the f**ks a boggle, is it the same as them little ugly things that was on telly a few years back?
