New disc and pad swap, cant move wheel!

Hello,

Just changed the front discs and pads, all ok, put the wheel on cant move it as it is tight up against the caliper, all parts used are OEM.

The caliper appears to be approx 4mm outward, this happens on both sides!

Any thought please as very fed up at the mo!

outward ? wrong discs ?did you check them against old ones

I did, look exactly the same, measurements are the same, its almost as if the pads are too thick, but have bought another set as well, (EBC) and they are same thickness!

slides on caliper free ?caliper bracket fitted correctly ?caliper is toucjing inner part of wheel?

yep...slides are ok, caliper is fitted ok,

yes..caliper is touching inside of wheel, havent done anything different to when it was taken off

can you take a picture and put it up ?

If you still have the old discs and pads refit them exactly the same way as you have fitted the new set. If you still have the same problem then you have fitted them wrong.

The thickness of the pads should be irrelevant as the caliper does not change its shape.

The caliper doesnt change its shape..agreed, but it does change its position on the guide pins in relation to the pad width, so it appears that they have moved outward towards the wheel!

Ive fitted them exactly as the old ones were removed, and taken them off 3 times and put them back...to no avail!

Either I'm missing something (duh!) or I'm not sure!

have you bought pads for the correct year?

also the original pads are handed, are they the right way round?

Just to clarify, (read my original post) the disc moves ok with pads in position but when put wheel on and tighten up boltsthe lower corner of the caliper rubs on inside of wheel and cant move it.....

New pads dont appear to be handed, all seem to be same shape and profile, Haynes suggests that there is a chamfer either straight or diagonal for inboard or outboard. Neither on both sets of new pads!

Not that it helps in this case but not all pads are handed. Mintex certainly are not.

What year is it as the early ones have solid disks and if memory serves thicker pads.
You will find the from vin number 1A000001 onwards have the vented disks and later pads.

Hi errol,

go to a photo sharing site like photobucket, it's dead easy to use, even for someone as pc unfriendly as me!

I removed vented discs and pads, bought with them on, its a 2001 y, will check the VIN, but got the new stuff from local factor (who is normally very good) and quoted reg no to him which should show the correct gear!

I've just been out and checked everything again!! Still the same, might be a case of 5mm wheel spacers, or skimming a bit of material from the back of the pad and also from the caliper which the pad backs to.

errol, you shouldn't need to be skimming anything, especially on a new product!!
Get the photos downloaded, I'm sure within minutes you'll have an answer. There is always an explanation, whether it be wrong fitment or wrong product.

certainly not teaching you to suck eggs, but have you pressed the brake pedal a few times to centralise the calipers / pads ?
