Wow, reading all the security issues with Defender, is worth fitting The Cobra A8510 Immobiliser? or is there a better after market one?

Get some physical security aswell. Electronic stuff is to easy to defeat of bypass.

Also get the windows etched and fit some security hinges to your bonnet

I'd investigate a tracker. Fitting an approved one may reduce your insurance, as well as giving you piece of mind.

Disklok with half moons welded on the back at the very least
X-Eng Pedal lock box - Expensive but imo the best as it locks in place
X-Eng also do a steel shroud the the ignition barrel/column
Etch your glass - been meaning to do that myself!

What do you mean half moons?

He means welding on additional steel half moon shapes to enclose the wheel at the side facing away from you. This prevents the disklok being peeled off the steering wheel.

Sorry yeah should have been more clear. Just improves the security of the Disklok, again on my list of things to do...

Anything older than a TD5 and forget electronic immobilisers as they can be bypassed with ease. Tracker doesn't help stop it getting nicked and with less and less traffic police there is less and less chance of the tracker being picked up. The best was is PHYSICAL deterrents Disklok is brilliant closely followed by a decent pedal lock. Also when parking up put the car on full lock before attaching the disklok as it makes it harder to tow away from the rear.

What are you getting?

If you go for an alarm pm me. I've fitted one and it has a motion sensor, you can't get within two feet of the landy without setting it off which gives a loud beep. I've trained my dogs to react to it.
I also use lots of physical security too
