its relative, Pikey - it is still bloody cheap compared to taking yo motar to a garidje to have it welded.
 
I got a Clarke 151EN from the Bay of E, £165.00 brand new from a reputable dealer, spot on little gas'less MIG with decent performance, you can do a fair bit before you need to cool down, forget what the ratio is now :confused: , has optional GAS ability as well, from memory welds 1mm to 6mm max.
 
You can get some really nice inverters if you look around for less than £200, a few thorea and zirconia alloy electrodes, an argon bottle and an A/C function and yer sorted! Can whip up some reet boshty lightweight ali bits for yer landy then!

I have a similar one to that and I can actually weld with it. I'm crap at welding (except with a stick welder) but the gasless one even welds outside and does make strong welds.
Only problem with it is that it only welds for about 3 or 4 seconds then stops for a couple of seconds then does it all over again. maybe its to stop overheating or burning through or maybe it's broke but tomorrow it's welding my bulkhead and outrigger.:)

Pretty much the same here, pretty new to this welding game and its felt reasonably easy to learn how to use, as you say, strong welds. If your wanting to do a continuous weld along the length of a door sill for example I think its the wrong welder for the job, it will manage 5 mins constant welding before needing a cool down even tho its fan assisted, like someone already said tho, if you do it in stages and avoid trying to long bits in one go its spot on.

I wonder if you have a bad earth btw ?
 
That welding accesory kit looks cheap though, them magnets go for about a tenner on their own usually...**** the welding, just stick one of them magnets one side, new piece of tin then another magnet to secure, paint.... job done, and if its the sill you could even make it look like a step
 
So could any of you chaps reccomend, (with links prefferably), any decent, but cheapish MIG welders?

What sort of minimum ampage should i be looking for?

The reason that I'm not too keen on MIG / ARC is that I find it a bit too violant, where-as with gas it's nice and steady away.

For some reason my wifes Skoda has got a swimming pool in the drivers footwell. Havn't had the time to stip all the interior back yet, (which in itself don't look a simple,job believe it or not), but I'm pretty sure that I will find some holes, and as the car only cost us £300, I don't want to spend a fortune getting it fixed.

Minimum amperage should be 20 to 30amps. If you're not going to be welding anything thicker than 3mm (a chassis is about 2mm) then 100amps will do you. You should be able to get one from Machine Mart for around £120/£150. If you want to be able to weld thicker then go upto 150 Amp or above Always get a fan cooled one regardless of size. I always advise people to get the biggest they can afford. I have a dual purpose Mig and have done lots of welding using fluxcored gasless wire. (think of it as a very thin, very long stick welder)

I rekon that looks the jobbie, 30amps shouldn't be too much, unless you're really welding thin stuff, but you wouldn't mig something that small anyway!
 
The baby version of mine, im very happy with the one I got, I only paid around £165 for mine tho ?? mine is a Clarke 151EN Turbo, Nitrous Intercooled Supercharged Metal Melter..............I would say shop around for a better price maybe ?
