Need new rear silencer

I need a new rear silencer for my 300 tdi. Is this an easy job? I can see parts for around £50 online, is that what I should expect?

Yes, kinda embarrassing story. I had it up on a ramp so I could clean underneath it. Left it there a while and when I went to drive it off, I forgot which way it was facing so I drove off the wrong way and it flipped up and punctured the back box!

I assume it's still illegal to drive without a rear silencer even on older cars?

Nah......just carry it in the back and when/if you get pulled tell 'em it just fell off and you're on your way home to fix it

Bugger that just put a straight through pipe on it! so longs it just passes the bumper so you don't get too many fumes in the cab it will be fine. (all I have on mine is the small back box no cat and no centre box sounds good but not too loud).

Ive got no exhaust past the Y-pipe and a hole in the drivers side manifold.....I wouldnt worry about it TBH
