Disco 2 Need new fob, what are my options

One seems to be well knackered, almost like it was EMPed.

So I need a new one.

What is the best course I have?

Got a Hawkeye.

Where is the immobiliser chip?

Can I reuse a second hand one, once reswitched?

There is no such thing as "immobiliser chip", to synk a second hand fob you need nanocom unless it has the long code supplied with it which is quite unlikely as that code is delivered only with new fobs and people rarely save it, hawkeye can't program fobs based on the short code

for hawkeye you need the long code from the top of the attached pic which contains the short code(circled in red) necessary for nanocom which is on the sticker inside the fob

I was used to immobiliser chips hence the question .

Will try one last reflow first.

Other thing of worry is seeing fobs removed from list .

Both of mine were refurbished as well. Nice new switches. Those are the most common ones i have seen.

If the switches were replaced in a fob which worked before and the led on the fob reacts to commands that fob must work without any programming if there is no other issue with it and the RF receiver is good, if you have only one fob and it fails to work while it's led is reacting the first suspect is the RF receiver, that's plug and play

No one works fine, the other failed i think last night, no led, no 433 beep.

Tried battery and jumping switch.

Cleaned off no dodgy solder.

Last thing will be to remove battery holder and check underneath.

I have repaired over the years a few hundred fobs, 3 failures in total.

One is mine.

I must have bought at least 500 if those 4.5N switches.

Oh sorry. Those switches are common 4.5Newton switches, i used to repair fobs for owners groups, done hundreds.

So if i can't fix them, new fob time.

They all in Europe use 433920hz of khz not sure which.

A radio scanner will pick it up.

Dude, it's not you, it's us... Your knowledge and english are exceptionally good. You are in my opinion one of the most knowledgeable people, if not the leading expert on Discovery 2 electronics. So there's no way it's your IQ, as MJI said:

Bit late now, but if you have key cover included on your insurance you could have got them to do it. I lost my key couple years ago and went through insurance, took about a week for the aa to come out to cut and program a new valeo fob.

Well the key case is aftermarket, not dismantled yet to see if it would go in a proper case.

Ignition on, plug in programmer, wait for blue light to turn off, unplug, ignition off, test remote locking, it works
