I went to Halfords and bought a jvc kd r461 which is the basic jvc at €79 but has a cd,usb, aux socket ,detachable face,6 presets,is also steering remote ready and the sound is actually amazing, better than the old LR one .The Halfords site has a compatibility checker and it said I needed an adaptor cable and facia ,but the guy in Halfords said I didn't as I had ISO plugs ,but there was a separated adaptor cable in the box anyway . I plugged it up and turned it on and it worked great..,just waiting for the FACIA plate to come in .There's also 12 preset EQ which I'll try tomorrow..The only slight dissappointment ,was I thought it had standard integrated bluetooth but the guy again told me it had connectivity through the aux using a bluetooth adaptor.Anyway still very happy with this unit and would be a JVC fan as I had several tv's ,and all had particularly good sound quality..Thanks again to all you guys who explained everything so well. ..

Does this work OK with the steering wheel controls and your under-seat amp?

Seeing as the new kit has a USB port, you'll need one of these, 'cos there's usually nowt on the radio:

It's very, very small so it won't get in the way and 32 gigs should be big enough for most people's music libraries.
yes, thanks ,looks the part allright...I do have a tiny 8gb drive and am going to try it first ,more or less to check how the radio manages and displays the music files etc..as I've never put music on anything other than a cd,a phone and tapes of course (giving away my age )
