Hi,

2004 Range Rover L322 4.4 V8 petrol:
each time I open a door, or close one after fan has stopped(runs for approx 1 minute), a fan situated behind battery/glovebox area comes on. It's not the interior blower motor....can anyone tell me what this actually is please?
I have already fitted a new hedgehog/resistor/regulator & the blower motor now operates as it should.

Cheers
Clive

Are you talking about the e-box fan?
Only supposed to come on when e-box above 35,ish. Cycles on ignition on for test. But why it’s doing it when open close doors don’t know. Maybe waking the car (open- close door) cycles it? Maybe it’s running after shutdown and you notice it when getting out of the car?

FBH also has a little fan you can hear. And I believe it can run on after engine shutdown am sure I have heard ours. But again shouldn’t start on opening a door, and certainly should run in the summer.

Sounds like you have a gremlin to investigate :)

First find the fan, open the bonnet and track it down:)

Good luck let us know what you find.

Thanks for replying.
I think the 'e-box fan' is on the driver's side, seen it on an American YouTube video*, but mine's a rhd & the fan noise is coming from passenger side. It's everytime I open a door/tailgate/bonnet.....even if the car's been stood for a day or more. It only runs for a minute but will come on again when I then shut a door etc.

Left and right hand drive are different.

As above.

My battery is on passenger side, yours I believe is also passenger side.
So some things change sides from LHD to RHD so you need to find the offending fan:)

My battery's on passenger side but aren't my ecu's, & therefore e-box fan, under the big black cover(e-box?) at the right of the engine bay.....driver's side?

Ok so here’s a thing.

On our 2011 the battery area also houses an ecu that has a fan:)

No idea about your year.

Sound travels, you need to find the fan:)

That's a good possibility....I'll start looking a bit deeper....after I've fitted it's new fuel pump & can move it to a more accessible postion.
Thanks.
Fitted a new battery earlier this week & saw the ecu behind the battery....it's for the transfer box & I believe it has a fan behind it....as previously posted above by Marjon.

It still came on even with the new battery but after about a 40 mile stop start shopping trip it has stopped. Went on a 200 mile round trip yesterday & still 'quiet'....either it's sorted itself or burnt out!!??

EDIT/UPDATE.....the fault's come back......even if I just press the LOCK button when vehicle is locked! An auto electrician told me yesterday it will be connected to the fact that the system's waking up each time the locking or doors are activated/opened/closed.....but why this particular fan comes on is a mystery.
