hey all
got a few questions
ive nearly got all the money together for my own series
still undecided with series 2a or series 3
leaning more to a 2a but would i have any trouble with insurance? (higher premiums ect)
also, being young and not having the best job, i'd like to save money where i can, so how much difference in mpg is there between owning a nice petrol and a nice diesel

any help would be greatly appreciated, as i'm planning to get me motor by the the end of this month :) cheers

Go to Adrian flux insurance and put a s2a in and a s3, it may not be much difference for classic insurance

As for s2a or s3, I would be tempted for s3 (but that's just my choice)

Diesel or petrol. Only think there is a few mpg difference based on the 2.25 litre blocks. Diesels are noisy and a bit sluggish and would need overdrive (in my opinion). If you can find one with a 200tdi engine then go for it (mines a 3.5 v8 and averages 10mpg)

Finally it depends on what you want out of it, ongoing project and keeping it original.... more off roading fun.... Weekly runabout....

Some s2a have s3 running gear anyway as they have been modified / upgraded

3s have heaters/demisters that (just about) work and easier to use dashes. My petrol gives me 12 - 15mpg around town and 20ish on a long run - and it will just about pull 70 on a good day with enough run up. Diesels use less fuel but have less go and the price of diesel is pretty steep these days - although you can run them on old chip fat if your parents happen to own a takeaway.
