MPG on Freelander Td4 3 Door Commercial...ballpark??!

Hi all, I'm thinking of buying a 2002 Freelander commercial and I'm looking at the Td4 diesel but I do quite a bit of mileage so I want something reasonably economical. Does anyone have a 3 door commercial td4 that could give me some guideline on mpg figures?? Apologies if this info is on search, I tried searching but it kept coming back with an error :monitor_punch:

How long is a piece of string? How heavy are your boots?

Three door and commercial doesn't matter - all the TD4s are similar as far as mpg is concerned.

Depends on how you drive it.

My minimum in towns and cities is around 27mpg - but on a long haul if I keep it in 5th gear and don't flog it much above 65mph I can easily get well over 40mpg.

Thanks for the info guys. Would the reduced weight of the commercial not give better fuel economy? The autotrader website shows combined mpg figures of 44 but I don't know how much faith I'd put in that. Most of my driving is in the country, don't do much in town, and I drive between 50 and 70 miles a day. I'd definitely be hoping to get early forties to may it practical for me!

In theory you're right - lower kerb-weight should give more mpg - but in the real world???

My mpg varies much more depending on the speed I drive than the loads I carry.
