Its that time of year again. As the proud owner of a 2001 td5 and 2003 td4, I always look forward to their MOTs. Disco tomorrow and freelander monday. Has anyone had any bad MOT experiences lately and are VOSA hot on any particular issues?I went over the disco chassis the other day and gave it a good pasting with a hammer, all sound so sprayed on another layer of dinitrol. Ihavent driven it since so hope the bad man doesnt take exception to my super clean underbody and think im up to something. The only thing on my mind is i replacedthe sidelight bulbs with some led type that I bought off fleabay that were advertised as white but have a definite tinge of blue. Is this frowned upon??Im quite confident with the hippo. Its always been quite clean underneath as it not worked anywhere near as hard. Recently serviced and running sweet so dont expectany emissions issues.Im going to give the credit car slot in my wallet a spray with wd40 tonight just in case I need to get it out.

I got some blue sidelight bulbs free with the xenon headlamp bulbs I got off ebay some years back-at Mot time tester removed the blue ones and replaced with clear, saying if left in he would have to fail it-not used em since

Cheers fellas, think im goin to make a stop at autoshop in morning and put normal bulbs in to save any hassle. I think mine are more blue than white.....you get what you pay for eh.

A bit like those blue LEDs you can buy which locate on the windscreen washers (assuming they're bonnet mounted and not in the wiper), commonly known as ****er lights :D

Well I chickened out this morning and zipped to halfrauds for normal sidelight bulbs before taking her in. Good result today, 3 advisories:
1. Minor areas of corrosion under vehicle.......I knew about that.
2. Minor oil leak within engine bay.exact location unknown.....em yeh.
3. Slight dampness around fuel filter but no visible leak....I shall have a look see.

Not bad for a 13 year old beastie I though...emissions results impressive too.

I was told that the rear damper bushes will need replacing soon when my disco was 5 years old and then years later an advisory for chip on the windscreen, oh come on, "it's been there for the last 10 years that u have been done my mot tests". The chip is still there and has never been mentioned again that's like 3 years on.

Still using the original rear damper bushes, it's a bit like LR telling me there is a recall and to come-in to have my fuel tank replaced, never did that either.

Seriously, they put it on there. To be honest with the advisory system I dont give a hoot, its amazing how as discool has stated that things that were advisorys are forgotten the next year and issues that have existed for years suddenly get picked up. As long as they dont fail it for something stupid im not bothered.

U think thats stupid here's a question for you all,

Disco 1 has four rear side lights,

If one isn't working, is it pass, fail or advise??

If they are all working but the lens is broken/missing on one rear side light pass, fail or advise?? :)

Im pretty sure mine passed last time one bulb down which I noticed after test. Guessin most would probably be happy as long as there is a light on each side. Open to argument but would guess on lenses a cracked lens would be advisory and any lens defect that allowed white light to shine through would be a fail....missing lens almost certainly a fail.
