how often on here do peeps landies fail there MOT on rust?? or exccessive corrosion.

None of our Land Rovers have ever failed on rust. Or, infact, ever failed. Guess that comes down to giving them a good check over first.

That's a fair point.
I always carry out my own 'home MOT' before presenting the vehicle; always have done.
Saves me time running it back again for one thing. Had very few failures on many, many vehicles over the last 30 years as a result.
As a matter of fact, when we scrutineer vehicles for our club events, we have failed several on things that passed the MOT only a week previously! Steering shaft UJ's, battery straps drop arm ball joints, handbrake etc
Insecure battery is not a failure, pass and advise.
And as far as corrosion goes your only allowed to use a plastic toffe hammer and/or fingerand thumb preasure which is rediculous when you could be towing 3t on it.

Insecure battery is not a failure,

It is at our events :D

No I know what you mean, the toffee hammer thing is bloody daft. My guy uses a tyre lever, and that's fine by me, as I test to that std before I take it.
I'd much rather have good metalwork under me than the ferrous equivalent of a teabag

He don't want to get cought my VOSA man doing that  although i tend to use the metal end and poke something hard if i feel that the metal is thin enough to be a danger, i would rather a telling off for that than to find out that a seat belt point pulled out in an accident after ide passed it

He doesn't smack it, just taps along but if he finds a soft bit then it shows up and sounds all wrong

Our local tester can be alittle harsh with the tapping stick on times. Him oh whats this smack,no hole, harder smack looks like a hole, full force wack yep its holed now. I've told him that he shouldn't be doing that in my eyes, but his answer is i'm the tester and your not, you know sweet F A

Ive heard about the air bag light comming into the MOT but not had any confurmation from VOSA as yet, im also wondering weather they will have to be replaced as they have a shelf life so to speak, and i believe it is recomended they are replaced when 10 years old, that will right a lot of cars off.

I'm sure I took an airbag out of a car once that had a replacement date on it. Safe to say it was well out if date but went back in anyway.

I believe it's the propellant tablets that have the expiry date as they degrade over time.

Oh surely not another way to get more older cars off the road?
Next it will be the shakken, and then we can all get ourselves a horse and cart!

Yeah volvo's still have the stickers on them, even the sips need to be replaced lol. I do belive that he has been reported once or twice but no evdince to back it up. Althou his pass rate is way down.
