Drove my 54 TD4 home, went to start it up and wouldn't, called R.A.C. patrolman hooked his computer up and it stated transmission range sensor faulty!!! then he sprayed some stuff in a air pipe and it sort of started, then he said it was a fuel pressure problem, then he said it used to be petrol engine (now diesel), how can I check this was the case and re-registered, then i just tried to start it and it has done, what do i do now? just drive it and see what happpens, and oh it was the inlet crankcase brerather pipe that made it spew out blue smoke 3 weeks ago. Phew

if it's td4, then this could be a faulty injector. when mine failed, refused to start, but would start everytime with easy start sprayed in the inlet.

leak off test would show this.

good luck.

if it was converted from petrol to diesel would it be possible to check old MOTs ?
with the computerised system now do the DVLA have records

Hi,

The easiest and best way to check if your engine used to be a petrol is to look at the VIN as they can't change that.

If the 8th digit is "E" then it was originally fitted with the M47 diesel engine. Anything other than "E" says that it wasn't......
