So, i'm rebuilding my galvanized 2a bulkhead and realized I don't have the instrument panel and wiper panel.

The original owner made his own enclosure so I have the speedo and switches just not the panels

Anyone on her have them or know what the part numbers are for them?

There are several variations on that panel with holes in different places and different sizes but they crop up on eBay quite often and the prices can be reasonable, but they can also be silly money. Just bide your time and keep watching.

how warm are those flat smiths heaters? especially at demisting, picked one up last year to fit in the s1 as that doesn't have demisters and the heater in it isn't that good so I was going to stick it in the tub and the flat one on the bulkhead
 
They are better than the round than the round ones unless you fit a Clayton core. They all work better if you bend the fan blades a bit.

The T7 square heater comes well recommended at about £130 new.

yes I have seen the t7 heater, the 3.5kw one, it looks superb, not overly keen on having that matrix on the outside ready to burn your shins though.

The main problem with that one is a series one wiring and alternator may not be man enough for the job, that the only reason I haven't bought it.

I have been thinking about gearing up on the alternator front as the warning light glows faintly red when the main beams are on. If I do do that the t7 would be on the purchase list.
 
Dont think that T7 takes any more power than the smiths heater.

The flat smiths heater does not fit if you have the small dash under the main dash. If yours is an 80" then I wouldnt have thought that the smiths flat heater wojld fit at all.

Whe I had an 80 I used a square heater out of a 1963 mini van tha I scrapped.

Any series landrover heater is perfectly capable of shunting a goodly amount of heat out IF it's in good order and not filled with sludge ...
The flattie in my station wagon will get it plenty toasty inside ....

That said I know several folks on seriouslyseries that have fitted the T7's with excellent results .
They should present little problem for the electrics on a series as long as they are in decent order ...

Joe IF you are running an alternator and its in decent order AND wired in properly your charge light shouldnt be glowing even with main beams on (Unless you have a very odd sized pulley on it)
As they are usually pretty efficient at charging even at tick over .
 
mine is an 86 romahomepete, there is enough space for a flattie :D I held it in place already, the heater that is there isn't a smiths that I have seen before so is probably out of another car, trouble is it doesn't have any demister outlets so I was going to stick it in the tub as an extra heater and either put the flattie or the round shin burner I got as well

some pics of the flatties I have, the thinner one is the one usually associated with landies, don't know what the bigger one came out of but there was a lot of carpet fibres inside, both need a good clean.

they are both the same height but one is deeper and longer so the matrices on each side are around twice as big. Even both sides of the smaller one add up to around the equivalent of an s3 matrix so I would say that in full working order it should keep a landy warm. The smaller one will fit on the s1 bulkhead if offset, has to be offset because of the transfer gear lever. I suppose it might be possible to get a transfer gear lever that bends slightly backward or get the one I have bent assuming it won't just snap.

I would rather have the bigger one in the s1 though so I think I will use the round one I have in the front and mount the big flatty in the back, using hoses in the demister holes to direct air to the front.

then use the smaller flatty as a tub area heater in the s3, using its demister vents to keep the side windows clear.

had another look at the t7 after mistericeman said it would be ok for an s1 wiring.

according to them it only needs 2 amps for continuous running, I thought it would need much more than that for a 3.5 kw output so I guess it isn't the strain on the 60year old wiring I thought it would be. knowing jack about electronics can certainly reduce your perceived options :D

So its another possibility if the round smiths proves not that good, certainly cheaper than paying £200 for a clayton core to go in the round.
 
doh, now you have said that its pretty clear why it doesn't use much :D the light has just gone on, In my mind I was thinking of domestic fan heater equivalents, wonder what the output of one of the smiths is by comparison.

if I had twigged what you said before I got the flatties I would probably have gone straight for the t7 and saved messing about on the bay to win them

I wouldnt panic ......
stick the flatties back on the bay and you'll probably get close to the price of a t7 on a good day ;-)
