Newbie here,

had a disco 98 V8 for about 3 weeks now.
Can anyone advise what sort of mileage I should be praying to have?

Currently, and as I am in Spain it is km and euro though gas is cheapest in Europe, I am getting around 400km from 100 euros on the highway - about 75 ish litres. Granted I did drive with an annoying beep for a good distance until I realised my car emits a nuisance beep at 120km/hr. New spanish laws mean 110km max highway speed which actually suits me!

related is how to get the best mileage?
from what I have read

spark plugs re-newed and gapped
HT leads
distributor rotary
i imagine cruise control but like so many it seems mine ain't working though vacuum hoses look ok and I am guessing my - button is latched on

tis true it is a v8 and having only owned a harley with a thirsty carb i was expecting it to gulp big

As I'm in England I'm not very good at Km's, Litres and euros: I reckon about 33636 furlongs per cubic yard of petrol.

1 cubic foot of gasoline is 16.98 litres
a cubic yard is 3x3x3 cubic feet or 458 litres
8 furlong in a mile, so 33636 furlong is 4204.5 miles or 6727.2 clicks

my car would get around 2500 clicks on 458 litres, so i am miles off of headtesters mark!

My maths might be deeply flawed but was based on:

1 gal(UK) = 0.005946 yd³ (Googled it)
8 furlongs to 1 mile
1 yd³ = 168.2 gal
25 mpg = 200 furlongs per gal
200 x 168.2 = 33636

Probably hopelessly wrong but it made me chuckle just thinking about all that euro nonsense and putting it in to English

made me laugh too!
this makes me cry though....

at constant 90kmh a full tank is good for 847 km
at constant 120kmh a full tanks is good for 664 km
at urban a full tank is no good for 454 km
i am losing at least 150 km on highway driving!

where is the best place to start?
plug gaps?
idle speed? this is ECU controlled but there is a mechanical retard etc???
HT leads? can they really cause this?
distributor?

i haven't yet been able to navigate RAVE very well so it is all a bit of a maze just now.
without any oil barons in the family i need to squeeze what i can out of this motor, help me please...

of course, these are owners manual figures so may be a bit off and 13 years has passed since new but it still seems very high consumption.

tyres. I have kelly's and unlike the standards i believe are good for 50psi as per mould markings, could someone out there with 16" radials + kelly's define good road and off road pressures please as this seems the easiest place to start.

tank is 19.6 uk gallons so we are in old money
owners manual defines 415 miles on constant 75mph, that would be around 21mpg
it seems i am somewhere more like 24mpg which doesn't seem to far out as who can stay at constant 75mph.

have an airport run in a few weeks and it is around 500 click round trip, will test it then...
anyone any idea how much fuel is in the tank when the empty light comes on?

i guess the only way to test is to fill tank completely, do the trip and completely fill again and i can see total fuel usage against distance...i can see the credit card bending already!

Its a thirsty V8.
I havnt used mine much bit I would be happy with 18-20 mpg on a run.
If you want economy you should have bought a diesel.

yeah i think i am splitting hairs, think points check and dist clean up and it should be closer to the mark...i also can't think anymore in furlongs, litres, gallons, mpg, kml's brain break!

I would like to know of advice for tyre pressure with Kelly's 16 safari hpr's for road and trail if anyone can help.

TOO CONFUSED!
I am getting 20 km to the gallon which is terrible!
not even getting 15mpg!!!!!

What I learned from different Board 18-24 l/100km is normal for the V8 Engine. You might get better mileage if yo have a light foot. A proper service will help too.

Did a little search on the german board, they are talking about 14 to 20 l/100km, Maximum 35, Minimum 11,5. I`d like to have a V8 as well bt atm not possible

thanks guys that helps a lot.
from the latest details, much appreciated, I am on the bottom end at around 25l / 100km.
Will experiment with this further.

Sorted tyre pressures though aim to do the chalk test but they were soft on the run that caused this.
Urban is killer and I do go trail roads a lot over mountains etc. so I expect that to be urban or worse.
Next big highway run in a few weeks and I will see what's what then run through some service points to see which gains me more economy.

It is a V8 and I lurv it gurgle burp!

According to the owners manual: "When the fuel remaining in the tank is a
minimum of 3 gallons (14 litres) on petrol vehicles, or 2 gallons (9 litres) on diesel vehicles, the AMBER low fuel warning light in the fuel gauge illuminates." It also states the tank capacity is 21 gall (95 litres). Thats for a Disco II 2001 onwards.

I agree your best bet is to fill the tank, do a long trip and then refill it.
