During MOT inspection I was walking under the landie and the MOT bloke pointed out that I could do with a new mid silencer soon.

Having looked as you there is a silencer for about £35 or a straight through pipe for £40.

Any thoughts about which to get.

Get a straight through, makes a nice deep noise but not too loud. Wouldn't really say it gives you much performance wise.

I am straight through with de cat but kept the rear silencer. I have found as some , that the 300tdi likes a little back pressure in the low to mid range. Suttle but there. Mine makes a nice noise, not too loud until I floor it then it sounds mental. But bearable on motorway and day to day.

Its down to how much noise you want - I have a decat pipe and no rear silencer (as side exhaust) and I tried a straight through pipe for the middle silencer and it was too noisy for me, so on went the silencer again.

It might be quieter with the rear silencer on, but I never noticed any noise increase when I removed the rear box though......

I would go with straight through. With regards to improvements on performance, well it is like all motoring things, nobody has the definitive answer but everyone likes to put there 2 pennies worth in!

Advantages- better sound and your engine will find it easier to breath through which may or may not improve mpg, performance etc. I have heard (excuse the pun) that it will increase cabin noise slightly
