Hi
Looking for a good independent mechanic to change clutch on 2009 Defender.
I’ve been quoted around £1200 say it would take them 10-12 hrs plus parts £300 ish. Seems rather excessive??
Have tried M&M , Egdon but looking for others.
Thanks in advance 🙏

How long have you owned your 2.4 TDCi (Transit) Defender ?
What work have you done on it yourself ?
(For example) have you changed the Diff, Gear and Transfer box oils ?

Why did the clutch let go ?
Do you regularly tow heavy things ?

A LOF HD clutch is around £350 inc VAT

LUK and Valeo and QH appear to be a little less but not much, so i'd say £300 ish for parts isn't a rip off at all.
Changing the clutch isn't a 2-3 hour job by any means even if you had a ramp and all the lifting gear.

It's more about the trust you have in the mechanics than the cost ....

My Focus is going to be just under £500 all in, thought that was quite good.
There is easily five times more work on a Defender. I will hazard a guess it's gearbox out on a tdci rather than engine out.
Took me two days to do my son's 200tdi.
