May the 4th (gear) stay with me. help

Why would a 300tdi that was cruising at 65-70mph suddenly loose every gear except 4th? don't even have reverse. High or low the only gear that moves the Disco is 4th?
There was a little pop and a shake and I thought maybe a flat tyre? Limped to the services and found I only have 4th gear. Any ideas as to what has happened and if I can sort it on the roadside with no tools

Because all gears except 4th, go via a layshaft in the box - 4th is direct connection input to output.

Easiest fix? New box? Or cheaper to refurb?

easiest - replace. change clutch at same time.

send old box to JM to have a look at.

Been told the clutch has been changed within the last 2 years. But yes it would be changed if worn. Just need to see what the boss want to do with it as it's the works 300tdi D1 not my 200tdi D1 so I'm still good just means mine is back to being the workhorse again ��

another box would be the best fix , loss of drive throuygh layshaft is usually a serious failure and box unfixable

Fair enough anyone got one? Preferable close to Peterborough area
