Evening all,

We've just moved down to the Falkland Islands for two years (military posting) and shipped a 99 Freelander 1 down as our family car (our first 4x4). The 35 mile main road between here and Stanley is a 30/70 mix of tarmac and flinty, gravelly hardpack, and while it's not too bad at the moment, as it's just been graded, apparently the potholes can get pretty spectacular. While the tyres which it came on are coping OK (Infinity 215/65/R16), I'll obviously want to upgrade before the road deteriorates. Two questions: what's the biggest size I'll be able to put on the 16" wheels without any drastic mods, and what would you recommend? The main brands available out here seem to be BF Goodrich, General and Kumho. I don't want to drive up the side of any mountains, just compete the weekly shopping exped with the minimum of dramas. Cheers,

Chris

Hi Chris

I think you've covered the three most popular makes of tyre for your use, but there are loads of posts on here about this subject........... do a search and you'll see :)

Im going with BFG AT2 215/70/16 for the same purpose :) You will struggle to get 65's in any decent AT tyre as they tend to start from 70 upwards AFAIK

General Grabber AT 215/70/R16, excellent value and very highly regarded :). I'm putting some on mine. I visited the Falkklands not too long ago, fantastic place.
