Having towed my caravan 350 miles (P38 2.5 Diesel) to a site near St Mawes, developing a heavy oil leak on the way from the gear box cooler and pipes, my first contact was not with a recovery firm.
Choosing a high point for a decent signal I used my iPhone to post a thread on the Landyzone site: requesting any local info on suitable 4 x 4 merchants.
'Trewey' came back with Steve Toyer Landrovers, Penryn, though he'd not used them. I looked up a couple of other names, but bumping into another P38 owner locally (long-haired Andy) he came up with the same name.
I went along and the place just looked and felt right: small business in a unit on an industrial estate; Landy jobs lined up outside, including P38s (a Forward Control and tracked armoured personnel carrier!); greased up mechanics who knew their business; followed by a quote with choice of cost. Though very busy (as the best fish shops always are), I was fitted in the following Tuesday - even though a man down that week.
A great job was done for me on the Tuesday. I'd planned a trip into Falmouth with the intention of picking up my P38 again at the end of the day, but got a call that it was ready just two hours after dropping it off! Get this, £63 for labour!! Wish I lived closer.
Thanks Steve, for real customer service and thanks to Trewey.
Ironically, a new Kenlowe fan I'd fitted for the journey failed me too. I'll do another post on the outcome to that, when I've had a response from the manufacturer - good job I had my aircon fans wired to a switch on the dash as a back-up (thanks also Datatec for that one a little while back).
