Having now owned my pride and joy for over three weeks,i thought i would ask help of you clued up owners.I have a 2000 TD5 ES,is there any belts or chains etc, that should be changed to avoid costly problems occuring. It has a full Harwoods history up to when i bought it,so hoped anything important has been done. She has now covered 90,000 mls and runs fine.
Thanks all

no belts to change as the cam is chain driven that does not require changing.

Stig, your a star, had an inkling this was the case, but needed the reassurance from a hardened owner.
Thanks again mate.

My advice .....

Buy, and carry everywhere you go, at least two FUEL FILTERS.

Make sure NOW that you can undo the fuel filter.
Clean the whole thing carefully, and spray it with heaps of WD40, or paint it with engine oil.
Pull a poly bag up over it, and a big rubber band round it at the to or a string to keep the worst of the road muck off it.

Make sure your polybag has a hole in to let it drain out.

This filter location sets a new world standard in absolute stupidity and "who gives a f*** because I don't" by the people who decided to fit it there.

So true - it must have been designed by the same guy who fitted the plastic inserts into the sunroof metal drain channel and sealed with mastic that lasts 5 minutes

Thankfully the fuel filter and sunroof appear to be the only parts he was allowed to work on:rolleyes:

Regarding maintenance, make sure you do a regular (annual?) inspection of the chassis and treat with rust proofing solution such as Waxoyl.

I second charlsey's comment on fuel filter, make sure you really cake the oil/wd4o on it cos as the filter feeds heated fuel, and under 4psi it damn well welds itself to the poxy fitting, always undo anticlockwise.

Never mind 4 psi ..... the pump puts fuel through the filter head at SIXTY psi!

And the fuel coming back from the engine wll be VERY hot, 70 or 80 degrees Celsius easy.
