Main dealers on part exchange

Right chap's I had after tears and overdrafts decided to move up to a Defender.
I went in to our local dealer and had a look around and test drive very happy.
Over coffee the sales man went over all the extras that I could have bla bla.
Then it got down to prise informed sales block about part ex he looked at my freelander and made an offer of £900 after he said that I got most upset every thing works on her a full history well nearly and bloody gleaming the wife had it detailed for my Xmas present .
Said dealer would not budge on his price so I walked away his loss I had the cash in the wife's handbag he has phoned several times but now I hope he has taken the hint.
My freelander looks and drives better than the day it was made so sod it I'll keep it for another 10 years
Funny thing is my daughter was going to chop her range rover in the next day and it only two years old she is on a damed good pay packet
Oh well landrovers loss any one else hate sales men

But you don't mention how old and what model your Hippo is.

I think when I go in looking for parts they think of a number and treble it .I dont think I'd buy a new or second hand motor from one .

Dealers are fargin bashdiges stick wi the Hippo if you've done all the work on it.

They are trying to drop you the hint.

They dont want your old car!

They just look what they think they'll get for it at block, take off a few hundered to be safe , then offer you that.

Private sale is the way forward.


Imho no working mot'able land rover should be worth less than £2k. They hit a price and just dont drop anymore.

I wouldn't mind them offering a crap amount for my "swapper" as long as the deal they give on the new one is good enough, it's all about cost to change, your car is not worth anything to him as (i assume) its more than 5 years old and would just straight to the block (auction) after a wash and vac - or one of the techies might want it for himself... anyway as long he's doing you a deal on the Defender it might not be too bad, look at the figures and accept that's just what its worth and base the deal on that or sell privately. Defender always sell so you need to call him back on the last weekend of the month and see if he's hit his target....
