Insurance companies cant pull your third party liabilities if you have an accident, regardless if you modify your car.... They only have the power to fail to pay out your damages.

Insurance companies will pay out third party claims, then come after the driver, personally, for the money.

If BoB wasn't so thick, he would know this.


Maybe he has been caught and is about to find out.
 
Just watching some TD5 ADVENTURE videos on YouTube.... head removal looks pretty simple. I have an engine hoist and hoist leveler. Best get my order in to Craddocks and book some time in at home.... might aswell replace glow plugs, fuel pressure regulator, coolant inlet and temp sensor, injector washers as well... Looks like a Christmas gift to myself. Just need to find the time.... Ive got a patio window to fit, decorate a bedroom after a full replaster, and get ready for a firm to come in and fit two roller garage doors to my outbuilding.... so much for a Christmas break ....

Oh, and replace the front wheel bearings on my Nemo before works starts on 2nd Jan.... lol

Soon as an accident is in place to a modified vehicle the insurance company pulls out and then is court for the driver.
Too much of this is going on and the police are now on it.
Declare your mods when done, and at insurance renewal time, if they are on the policy or certificate, you're golden, as the insurance have actuarially accommodated the increased risk of the modifications in your policy's price, and are a condition of the insurance.

Is that a swap meet kinda deal, or could a single guy just rock up with a wallet and leave with a wife? Asking for a friend 😶

It's really not too bad of a job.
Just bag and label all the nuts, bolts etc You take off, immediately upon removal.

I had my TD5 head repaired this summer.
Next time when I need to remove a TD5 head, I will unbolt intake, exhaust etc etc, before removing it so I can do it on my own.
I went with some guide that told to leave all those on there and take it out in one big piece. Had the missus helping, but it still wasn't easy and painless.

Had the head welded and machined etc and put it all back in piece by piece on the engine, not as a whole setup.
A whole lot easier.

I will bear that in mind unless there is a damp white cloth that comes out.
 
Been so busy this weekend, replacing brakes and suspension parts off my daughters i30 MOT, that I had not much spare time to look at my own....

Removed the boost pipe at the point the EGR should be, looks around for Greta, and the pipe is internally covered in oil. Pulled it totally off the adaptor, so it runs on unboosted air... and left the engine to run for at least 30 minutes. Still blue smoke, on idle, and loads on revving the engine. Im going to replace the turbo, and clean out the boost pipes and intercooler. If that doesnt fix it, Im not going to spend hundreds more on it, so will have to contemplate what I do next.

Been so busy I havent had chance to look at the D2. Replaced the turbo today, pretty simple job, and was expecting the Disco to burst into life, no smoke, and be the normal girl she used to be... Nope, still as smokey as ever. Got to clean out the pipes and intercooler tommorrow I guess.

I think the heads got to come off next....... new valve stem seals, and do the glow plugs, and injector seals. I do have a bad feeling its going to be piston rings though.....

Update: Decided to take it out for an Italian tune, to clear out the oil.... got quater mile down the road and the engine cut out, with a plume of blue acrid smoke... Towed home by the 90, in disgrace, but with the engine still running, and blue smoke....

There is a slight clattering from the engine, not sure if its top end or bottom. Anyway, Im spending the rest of the day changing the wheel bearings and driveshaft on my van, as its more important. The Disco can sit on the garden sulking.

Only strange thing was when I first started the engine up this morning, no smoke whatsoever. It was only after 15 minutes, after the engine warmed up, that it started smoking on idle.
