Took the poor girl in for MOT today. It's ok I'm sure. that's what i keep telling myself. All inner arches battery tray and small spot on chassis need welding. Usual stuff. fuel leak nothing much. But its the emissions. over 5.6. took egr off. Now wondering if I should have left it on. Change fuel, oil and air filters as well as oil change. Bang some additive in and £30 worth of v power. hopefully that should bring it down. She goes back in for retest in less than ten days fingers crossed going to have a busy weekend. :biggrin1:

Hey Same thing happened to me! Try this....
I blanked off the egr valve, put in 9 ltr diesel 3ltr veg oil, ran it empty, put on a new fuel filter filled with "diesel magic" then put in 10 ltr of v power and removed the air filter!
It passed cold so the bloke said it would of done better hot! Not sure which made the biggest difference, but all together they made a big improvement!
I got it down from 3.8 hot to 2.1 cold............

As said earlier in the thread get it nice and warm and clear it's throat with some high revs prior to taking it in.

Fill new fuel filter with naptha or name brand cleaner . Give the exhuast boxes a few taps with a hammer in places it wont dent . Drive vehicle up and down motorway type road at speed , preferably with some hills . Autos are easy as you can slip them into neutral and rev hard while climbing hill at speed , manuals you need to match your speed to gear when re engaging . That lot should clear out any ****e in the system - you should see it in the mirror....can be quite impressive . Dont do it with the police or vospa behind you .

Stuck EGR often contributes to or causes bad emissions if stuck but if its not there it cant stick . For the potential benefits weighed against downsides , leave it off .

All this is pre supposing that the engine is running correctly to start with , timing correct , IP in good order and no headgasket or turbo issues .

Well test day came and went. didn't take it in and made my excuse. So there letting me bring it, in the morning.
Decided to put complete exhaust on. Replaced broken wheel stud. was a bit more involved than I thought but at least I found My wheel bearings weren't even hand tight. sorted now.
Then had to replace trackrod end. omg. what a jobbie that was. had to cut off the nut. OK not to worry. undid the clamp from the arm. Great. Would the sod turn Noooo. Bit of heat. bit of release oil. Ahhhhh. Cant even put it back together. cut the nut. I remembered my dad said if you can't get something undone with heat then. heat it again and rub a candle over the thread. So tried this and hey presto off it came. Great feeling good. Came to put on the new track rod end. **** me. Left handed thread. Didn't realize they were handed. so put the old one back on. and tie wrapped it to the hub so I could Reverse it back on the drive. Got one coming in the morning. So get that on should be easy now. Oil change then back in for retest. Let you know tomorrow night now. cheers

Hell of a morning. But thanks guys for all your advice. she flew through MOT. Emissions were 6.8. now .95 great. Even told me the welding was spot on. Thanks to my mate for that. This is my first mot with the disco and was dreading it. Still. all done now time for lift kit and clean and wax oil all I can see underneath. New brake calipers discs and bearings to go on. :biggrin1::biggrin1::biggrin1:
