Hi All,

My FL1 has recently started to misfire. I tested it without the air filter and it seemed to run a lot better. Replaced the airfilter with a new one and misfire/lumpiness has returned.

Any ideas? All I've changed recently is exhaust.

First off check for learning pipes, especially the thin pipe that goes into the ECU. This pipe must be completely air tight for correct operation.

Fuel pump / filter. My 1.8 misfired... at Christmas / New Year. I replaced the ignition leads, rotor and dist' cap, still there. Then replaced the fuel pump - all fixed. Fuel pick on the original pump was clogged as was the fump's filter element.

Cheers for that - is there any way I can check or is it a trial and error job?

Also, it seems better when cold (like this morning), lumpiness gets worse as the engine warms up..

You could easily clean the gauze pick-up area on the pump and replace the internal fuel filter.

The pump itself is not to bad to get at. It's beneath a circular cover under the rear seat behind the driver. Disconnect the battery, lift seat, have rags on hand to mop up petrol spillage..., Disconnect wiring and fuel line. Undo the ring-like top retainer [I used a large flat bladed screwdriver and tapped it around with a light hammer]. The pump will be stiff to pull up due to the top rubber seal, but it will come up. There is a YouTube video on how to replace the fuel filter too.

what spark plugs have you got in if any other than platinum then it can miss fire, as the wife's did until we changed them that had been put in by a LR dealer.

For some reason it's been fine the last 24 hours... Really puzzling as on Thursday it was almost cutting out...
