I think I was fearing the worst but might only now need to replace the O rings on the intermediate shaft.

After searching and Googleing it appears you need special measuring tools which I don't have..... so, is there an easier way to replace the O rings and refit the shaft and tighten up the stake nut correctly without the tools. Won't be removing or disturbing anything else in the box just the shaft.

Thanks

have the box upside down and feel for the play in the intermediate gear been removed as you tighten nut, as soon as its gone give it about 45 degrees and stake nut, the used bearings wont need the full rolling resistance new would, your really just ensuring theres no play

Thanks James, when you say have the box upside down do you mean stake nut facing upwards vertical or physically the box upside down as in sump plug to the top.

Am assuming I will only need the 2 O rings and a new stake nut ??

Thanks

sump up but off, you can reuse the original stake nut 99% of the time, put a little silicone on the o rings it helps lube and seal them

There are some excellent YouTube videos on this. Some from Land Rover tool box videos and some from a guy in Canada. He’s English. I think his channel is called Britannia restorations.
