300 Tdi Manual 3 door ... 31" tyres, standard gearing. Now back onroad and towing a caravan occasionally. I'd like to lower the overall gearing to help with keeping the towing within the 'power' range .. currently at 60 it's at about 1750-1800 rpm, I'd prefer it to be at about 2000+ rpm so it cruises where most power/torque is. It does cruise at 70 when towing at 2500 but obviously the power's right it's just illegal and uses lots more fuel!

Has anyone lowered their Disco overall gearing? How? Did it do any good?

Thinking also for when we fit 33" tyres, which hopefully won't be too long!

Cheers MHM and Trewey ... Having a Deja-vu moment here .. I'm sure I asked this a couple of years ago too ... though it could be my age playing havoc again .. ;)

Transfer boxes come in various ratios:

Discovery TDi 1:1.2

Defender 90 1:1.4

Defender 110 1:1.6

So to achieve your goal you could/should go for a 1:1.4 from a Def 90.

Thanks for that .. gives me an option on what to look for. I was thinking diff crown rings .. but that'd change low range too ..
