2004 TD4. Hi everyone, is the consensus of opinion still that the Pierburg pump is the only pump to fit?
Mine appears to have stopped working this morning!! Thanks in advance.
 
Cheap one won't last a year !

Pierburg also go by another name now, can't remember what it is.
Pierburg it is then. Would it make sense to change the fuel filter at the same time? I changed it a couple of years ago, it's only done around 10k kilometres but I'm wondering if the pump failing may have introduced swarf etc into the fuel lines.
If so, does anyone know the manufacturer of the original filter?
 
As you have to take the wheel arch panel out it is worth doing the filter. Make is less important on the filter. Many available on Ebay.

That's good to know. I've read somewhere of someone returning a pump because the Pierburg one they ordered arrived marked TI!
 
Unfortunately the Pierburg that has arrived and been fitted sounds like a screaming banshee! I've tried to upload a video without success. I've ordered a replacement, hope it's better!
 
Can anyone tell me about the earth connection that's down there? My pump seems to have been running perfectly for the last 12 years without the earth wire being connected and the new pump runs too, although a little louder than usual!

Yes, for forum is broken, although you could never upload audio or video, just pictures, and that now doesn't work. For video you have to upload to YouTube, then link from there.

If a Pierburg pump is noisy, it's probably just air trapped in it. Give the pump a couple of love taps while it's running, which will normally dislodge the trapped air.

The earth strap is for electrical noise suppression, and serves no actual function to the pump.

You have been lucky ! Mine was about 6 months but it had been on shelf for a whole so out of warrantee. Others have reported similar.

I don't like using luck for a pump that can make whole vehicle fail!
 
I had a Bosch ordered back then, but sent it back as Metzger was half the price and still is. Odd thing read a comment from Spain this morning, someone had ordered a Bosch and when scratching the sticker off it came out with TI Automotive, so wondering if they are the same. Price is very similar.
 
A quick update. I returned the first Pierburg pump and was sent a replacement Pierburg which when fitted, was no better than the first one. They both made enough of a whine that I could hear them over the road/wind noise travelling at 50 kph.
They both came in the correct packaging and were etched with the Pierburg name on the pump body but I can't believe they are genuine making the racket they did.
Suppliers are thin on the ground out here in Spain and not wanting to risk trying another so called Pierburg from the same supplier, I have found a Bosch pump from the same place at a similar cost. Assuming it's a genuine pump, are the Bosch pumps any good?
 
Thanks for the info. I've been using Amazon.es here in Spain to supply the pumps but it appears as if it's down to luck of the draw which ever make of pump you order.
Using maybe some twisted logic, I have ordered a Bosch pump, hoping it's a TI Automotive when it arrives. Perhaps that way I'll get a more recently manufactured pump, not an original Pierburg that has been sat around on a shelf for years. Fingers crossed.
I'll be able to change the pump with my eyes closed by the time I get a good one!
I'll let you know how I get on.

Another update. The third pump has been fitted today, a Bosch, and this is noisy too! I'm beginning to think I must be doing something wrong during the installation but I can't think what.
Anybody have any ideas what I may be doing wrong?

It sounds like it could be drawing air in the quick connector at the pump intake side.
