long range tanks

What vehicle?

What sort of range do you require?

Where do you intend going?

There are also implications about towing equipment.

Our black 110 has max of 170 litres in tanks onboard or a range of up to 1,000 miles.

We can supply onboard tanks to give up to about 300 litres on board.

Large main tanks can hold up to 120 litres but do not work with tank guards so we can supply them double skinned on the bottom.

its for mates 07 110 station wagon.
he is planning on going from his home in vienna to moscow via siberia and mongolia then heading to us and driving down to rio.

07 could be a TD5 or a 2.4 TDCi.

So what sort of fuel capacity does he need?

A flow through wing tank is a flow through tang and adds 48 litres to main tank.

A replacement main tank is 120 litres

LHS pod tank 56 litres

RHS pod tank 66 litres

Pod tanks need a fuel pump.

So that is a possible 300 litres in onboard tanks which would give a range of 1500 miles plus.

Then there is question mild steel or stainless, single or double bottom.

A larger main tank has implication on tow bar etc.

Might be a good idea to get your friend to contact me and I might be able to give him direct advice.

Dont forget fuel weighs as well , and unless you are in areas miles from human habitation 600 miles is more than enough .

how goods your german?
his english is very poor.

I do not speak German, however two options he writes to me in German and I use Google German to English convertor. OK you sometimes get imaginative translations which can be amusing.

Or I have a German friend who is in the 4x4 trade and he speaks extremely good English and he knows defenders as well!

So giving advice more relevant will be easier with more information.

For instance need to know range required, expected mpg or litres/100km.

Reserve fuel required.

For instance a 300TDi would typically average 28-32 mpg, however have also managed to get as low as 18mpg out of a 300 TDi due to the terrain driving over.

Well at that sort of money we could provide a stainless steel wing tank including VAT and carriage to mainland UK.

For a mild steel wing tank price should be around £360 plus say £20 carriage.

To fit a wing tank you reuse the existing fuel pipe from filler to tank. Slightly awkward fastening the jubilee clips around the fuel pipe. Best done with an empty fuel main tank. To attach the balance pipe you need to put a fitting inside the main tank. Trick is to thread a wire through the main tank and slide the fitting down it.

Well worth making sure your main tank is in good condition before you start fitting extra tanks.

Yes, I fitted a wing tank on my 90 and I must say it's been a big improvement. Only another 30-40 litres, but well worth doing, and permits a much more relaxed approach to finding fuel stations. For vehicles intended to work in remote rural areas it's surprising how little fuel capacity they give you as standard.
