Been away and when i tried to get in my range rover p38 it wouldnt open, I have never used the door lock before and when i tried realised that was broke and just turns without opening. Couldnt work out what had happened then noticed clock had stopped, so looks likeflat battery, is there anyway of opening the bonnet to charge the battery or another way to do it? Any advice would be great

Not sure about an easy way but if you have a spare battery you could always get underneath and connect the live to the appropriate terminal on the starter moter and the negative to the chasis. If nothing else this should get sufficent power to allow you to get the doors open.

you could always go old school with a metal coat hanger on the inside to lift the door knob up done it a few times to my own one its ok to you realise you double locked it then you stuffed

Tried opening bonnet to put it on charge but can only get n/s bonnet catch open, does the other side work off same cable?

Ok thanks, i can get to the one behind the grill but cant see other, tried coathanger on door couldnt get in that way either, back to drawing board then i think

hi ,bonnet catch at the driver's side quite fiddly,if you disconnect the horn multi plug you can get long bar to reach the catch, or you can make a couple of timber wedges an prise the door opened enough to get bar in to prise up snib.

Happened to me a few months back - I removed the small triangular rear door window (carefully) and was able to open the door from there.

Hope that helps

Joe

hi i had same problem with my p38 if u remove the grill u can one one side of the bonnet by pulling on the cable if other side does not pop i used a long flet bladed screw driver and forsed catch open. only thing 2 watch out for is connecting new battery u may meed to sink the key with the doors again but if u get that wrong u will emobolise the engine and thats not an easy fix, been there done that. hope this helps mike

Thanks for all the advice, got in now took an hour with coathanger but got there. Battery was dead so charged it up but heard a fuzzing coming from rear speaker, the doors were damaged so they were changed last week and when the radio was on it was making afuzzing sound from the rear door speaker but even with radio off when it was charging this noise was happening so has now been disconnected, only other problem i now have is that i cant reset the code to start it as the door lock doesnt work, Im beginning to remember why i sold my last 2 p38s as they were off the road more than on

its a long shot but some times i can confuse my p38 by turning ignition on and off over and over but also pressing buttons on the key. a message on the dash should say press key to reset. is door lock totally broken if not put key in lock turn back once and press lock button at same time then do the same when u unlock that can also work. mike
