After starting my 110 last night and switching on the lights with the light switch the side lights came on ok, but when i then proceeded to switch the full lights on nothing happened.

Today i tried changing both head lights with no success, i also checked the fuses under the drivers side seat and again everything looked ok.

my full beams still work when i pull back on the stalk, and when the switch for the lights are engaged the dash light goes out as well.

Any ideas guys...

P.S... I also have a squeeking noice when driving in the rain or damp, it disappears when its dry and if i turn the steering wheel even slightly it disappears too.

Could this be the swivel pin joints needing a one shot grease jobbie.....

thanks Colin

wot age is 110?

not sure bout lights, bout sounds like your belts need a bit of chalk or talcing powder or tightening

If the fues box is under the seat sounds like a newer one to me - Do these have dim/dip relays? - i'm not sure - somebody will know but need to know age.

Other likely culprits are the switch+/ relay (depending on age)

I doubt it is an earth fault as it would be unlikely for both to have failed at the same time, (as with the bulbs - which you have checked)

its a 110 year 2004, i opened up the fuse box under the seat and youve basically got 2 sets of fuses, smaller pin fuses and some larger fuses that ive never used before and going by the diagram on the lid it is one of these larger 30amp fuses that is linked to the lights...

over to you gents.....

Colin

My monies on the headlight relay, usually behind the dash somewhere, listen for the click when you switch the lights on it will help locate it, could also be the switch itself but from what you describe, relay

You posted while I was typing, I presumed it was older so not sure where relay is, if fitted ?

I had the same prob with my lights about a year ago it turned out to be the copper contact surfaces inside the switch witch i managed to open up and repair with a soldering iron, it lasted for ayear or so but ultimatly had to replace it

Basicly your going to have to try and find out where the power is stopping in the circuit (i.e. the break)

As above the three most likely things are:

1) The switch - your going to need to remove the cover cover behind the wheel (three screws on the underside) and check it with a multi-meter to make sure it is making contact when switched on.

2) The relay - not sure where it is on the TD5 - hopefully somebody will point it out before too long.

3) The dim-dip relay - this is a stupid device that was fitted to some landys (not sure about yours) that made the dipped beam come on dimly when the side lights were on, and usualy fails and causes things like this to occure - if you have one it will be behind the instrument panel and looks like a big heat sink with a plastic pluf on one side - if you get to this point then just unplug it - the diped beam works perfectly well without it - you just don't get the dim/dip function.

Sorry i can't be more helpfull, but there are a number of TD5 experts on here who i'm sure will be able to clarify a couple of the points above.

Hey guys i was wondering if anyone can help?

I have now checked the light switch on the steering column and it is fine and not burnt out.

I have also found the light relay switch Lucas YWC 10050 (pink) and think it may
be this.

Can anyone tell me where i can get hold of one of these as i cant find one anywhere...

All the best Colin....

I dont care if you lost your cool, i thank you anyway.

It is always good to see someone who knows their stuff helping out in this way, it really is a big help when you are not that experienced yourself with fixing up a defender that has gone wrong, it can be a frustrating time, so any help given by members more in the know is a god send....

keep up the good work my friend...

Colin...
