For those of you who use a trolley jack to lift your landy, where do you position the jack? Under the diffs? Does the fact that the diffs are offset make the lift unstable?

Or do you have to use one of these?

If you jack under the diff. yes the vehicle will be on a slant but if you put stands of equal height under each end and let the jack down so the axle is resting on said stands, there you have it - level.

It sounds like you want to lift both sides at once, but why be lazy, do one side at a time and be safe by using AXLE stands.

If you need the axle to hang then I jack from the chassis and put the stands on the chassis.

Depends why I'm jacking it up. To remove/replace a wheel or one end of an axle, I mostly use the bottom of the hub/suspension to jack up, then lower the axle onto an axle stand.

If I'm lifting a complete axle, then the same, done one at a time .. My jack doesn't have enough throw to lift an axle set of wheels off the ground if I jack from a diff, or anywhere for that matter!

If I want it high enough for the axles to droop, say replacing body parts etc, I have blocks to sit the axle stands on, and generally use a high-lift to lift the front or rear as needed! ;)

Don't leave it unstable... I dropped my series - went sideways about 1m. Genuinally the scarriest thing i've ever done.

(One side on axle stand, had jacked otherside right up in the air and it basically forced the axle stand over... looking back... it was a stupid thing to do.)

I wang it up with my overhead crane slung either around the centre of my HD bumper or towbar.

I'm buggered if I break down though as I don't have a decent jack. It's on my ever increasing 'useful **** I need as a defender owner' list!

Who the chuff is jacking off the chasis? Off the axle anywhere dependending on wot ya wanna do then stands under it.

some of those lifting beams that fit into the sealy jacks are quite slack once the paint has been chipped off! rather just put the saddle under the dif and lower onto stands for work.
