wanting to get a lift kit on my 90 ( when purchased in 2 weeks ) just wanted to know which one is best been looking around and there fooking loads about but heard some are ****e and others arent been told to stay away from brit part or as i have heard **** part and what about radius arms who should i go for with them aswell

:welcome2: Joey...you will get a bit of stick on subjects that have been discussed loads. Whats size tyres do you have? If they are standard and you will be replacing them you can get and extra 2 inch lift just by getting bigger tyres. Spend the money you save on steering gaurd and diff guards.:)

Everyone is helpful in particular the grumpy fookers so dont be put off.....:D

thanks mate was going to go for 265/75 r16 kumho venture mt tyres mates got the same on his havent got the 90 yet just like to get ready for when i do get 1 ( 2 weeks away and am i like a kid at chrismas). i do want a lift becasue was out in me mates 90 last night (bayden_uk) and the ride wasnt that good with standard suspension. so with a lift a little less back breaking my other mates wasnt as bad and his had a lift and the same tyres. i have been looking at these off ebay what do you guys think anygood ?

looks like a good basic kit but would recommend getting new turret rings, spring retainers and possibly extended hoses.
you might also need dislocation as some times the shocks are longer than the springs at max droop.

Horses for courses, everyone has a different view; however i took a set of those blue springs off mine (after fitting them myself), because the ride on road was dreadful, on top of the fact that the lift pretty much killed off both propshafts within a couple of months. Personally i would get your 90 home, and work out what essentials it really does need before you spend your hard earned cash on making it worse. Land Rover did know what they were doing when they made these. (apart from the steel/ alloy issue)

I want to back you up on the destroying parts bit. A lift kit isn't a case of bigger springs and done. You have to change radius arms, trailing arms and soooo much more and if you lift it without widening it, you better enjoy being upside down :rolleyes:

on a 2'' lift you do not need to change radius or trailing arms you will need extended bump stops and extended brake hoses ( not a must more a precaution )
have done that on mine with no problems. ( apart from crap britpart springs sagging ) do your research before you spend your money we all have are own opinions and they all vary
 
Lifting without changing radius arms and prop shafts etc. puts constant pressure and tension on bushes and joints. Eventually something's gotta give and it won't be those shiny new springs. :rolleyes:

But like wickford said, it's just my opinion that lifts are crap :D

By the way I have 285/75x16s without any lift. Obviously you lose a bit of articulation but you would never know unless you get in an axle twister.

SOMETIMES you get away with a 2 inch lift. It does depend how fussy you are and what tollerance your LR has been built to. What wickford says is true about usually you get away with it but its not guaranteed and for the size tyre you intend fitting I wouldn't bother.

Do be aware that it can cost in excess of £1K to get back a decent smooth ride for Zero gain in offroad ability if anything you will increase the C of G so will lose performance.

springs,
shocks,
Bump stops,
posibly shock mounts,
extended brake lines,
castor correction radius arms,
cranked rear arms,
bush kit because cranked arms need polybush type bushes,
wide angle propshafts,
Tyre size dependant Gearing low range can become horrible (trust me been there resolving the issue now)

All the above **could be needed** and if done badly you can end up with a vehicle with less offroad ability that a stock defender/90. Also note articulation looks great but My opinion is its by far the most over rated posuers need only apply part of Modding your mota! There are many vehicles out there that look wonderful but are in reality just complete ****e (the owners are usually more than overly happy with their performance because of the illusion that spending a fortune on "a lift kit" will make your landy better).

You have been warned research this subject thoroughly I would suggest you take note from anyone that has real experience with suspension setups (mine took me 2 months to decide on springs alone spring rate, height and fitting checking took many hours work) Ask people that have been involved in real comps/trials rarther than hobby offroaders may I suggest andy66 is a good person to talk to or PM he will give you a real answer and not the usual "I fitted this and its great with no real explaination why or any conclusive comparison between standard and modified"

My personal opinion is if you must lift your landy (RR HD rears) Red/White springs all round and Procomp +2's is not a bad starting point which was a good trialers choice for years. If you fit a winch or carry alot of crap then this needs taking into consideration.

The tyres you intend on fitting I wouldn't bother with a lift it absolutly pointles. Do buy a complete bush kit Standard (that horrible word) and fit that and see how the LR performs first. When you want to fit big tyres (I mean 35 inch plus) then think about a lift kit. The military fitted 35 inch tyres without lift kits on 110's so why everyone instantly believes they need a lift kit to fit slightly taller tyres than a factory option is beyond me.

i have my own thoughts and there only my opinion
had my 2" lift on for over a year and a half..35" tyres extended braided hoses,dislocation cones and hd turrets..

no need for radius arms and propshafts (who told ya you needed them?)

I had a mate with a lift kit but stock radius arms etc. His bushes went within a few months and you can see the wear on everything and feel the excessive play. To be honest I've seen you round here a lot mate and I have to admit you know your stuff definitely more than me. Take your opinion over mine any day but personally I wouldn't lift without replacing everything after seeing my mates. If a job's worth doing its worth doing fully I say.
 
note when I said RR HD springs they are actually lighter duty than a stock defender springs by a fair ammount so 3 inches taller and softer springs than stock gives a nice height. If youhave any more than plus 2 shocks on standard mounts and dislocate the springs then there is Every need for wide yoke propshafts they will bind. Much jacking and driving up onto tyres inching my suspension up bit by bit and I can tell you this:

I have not seen any kit I would but they all have draw backs all of which I am not able to accept. while im ranting the ammount of money people spend on good looking landys to bolt on a standard tow hitch, low tow hitch or military extended bumperettes is just beyond me. You can certainly see the posures from the competition lads a mile off.
