Hi just got rid of my beloved 300tdi disco 3 door and picked up a W reg TD5 disco 2. The guy had started off road prepping it, insa off roads, winch bumper, snorkel.

However I am new to the ACE system on the TD5 and there is a slight leak where the pipes enter the box under the drivers side . Research in this it seems the pipes are quite pricey and a bugger to fix. I've seen one option is to remove the system and replace with new bushes and shorter belt?

If I removed this system and also converted to springs and shocks in place of the rear airbags, would I be turning it into a boat round corners ? I do some pay and play occasionally so would like the lift. I've been quoted £400 to supply and fit terra firma 2" lift and remove air bags. Does this sound reasonable?

Could anyone tell me the cost to remove the ACE system ?

I'm based in stourbridge if anyone could reccomend a good independent locally for all the work? I'd also be happy to sell on the ACE parts and airbags

Hi mate. One of the first things I did to my Td5 was to remove the ACE :D I had a leak in one pipe, then another, then from the front ram, then the rear so I decided to rip the whole bag of s**t out and fit conventional anti-roll bars all round. I got mine from Andrew at Maverick4x4 - all genuine LR parts which cost around £200 about 2.5 years ago. The front anti roll bar is the same size for SLS (airbag) and non SLS versions, but the rear anti-roll bars differ - the SLS version is much heftier. I never had SLS but I fitted the SLS bar as I intended to fit a roofrack and rooftent so wanted the extra roll resistance. I have to say I'm still very happy with the arrangement - it handles fine on the road with only slightly more roll, even when fully loaded.

Re the airbags... now thats a different discussion altogether. Mine never had them so I didn't have to face this decision, but having been a passenger in an SLS D2 I'd say keep the airbags! You can lift the rear with some spacers/blocks and suspension height sensor relocation bars thus having your lift and that great ride. You also keep the ability to lift the rear end another 2 inches if you get stuck of course. The front can be lifted either with spacers/blocks or longer springs - BUT bear in mind that (generally) taller springs are stiffer, so the ride will end up harsher if you go down that route. Of course if your spring are tired anyway then you'll need new springs regardless.

When costing the job, allow for new front turret rings and nuts - you'll either have to cut them off, or they'll snap ;)

You'll also need extended brake hoses (required) and extended bump stops (ideally). You can re-route the ABS wiring to give you a bit more length so extensions to this aren't necessary. If you're offroading, then its highly likely you'll also need some gearbox crossmember spacers to drop the crossmember a bit - the prop may well catch on the crossmember when offroading otherwise. My D2 doesn't really go offroad much so it isn't a problem for me - we just do very mild greenlaning in the D2, and have recently bought a 300Tdi D1 for the more fun stuff :D

So I've looked into repairing the ace unit, seems it's leaking from the actuator box under drivers seat, previous owner looks like he's put metal putty on the joints to try to fix? Anyone recommend a garage local to stourbridge that will remove it? Or of someone wants the pump and pipes then they're welcome to come and remove them if they replace the belt and fit the jockey wheel in replacement?
