My 1989 2.5TD has just failed the MOT due to a diesel leak from the injector pump. I started the engine and watched it, and could see a drip from where the no. 2 injector pipe fixes to the injector pump. It was very tight, so I couldn't nip it up any more. I therefore undid it, cleaned it a bit, refitted it and tightened it, and the drip stopped.
However, there is now a bigger drip from where the no. 2 pipe fixes to the injector itself!
The car does smoke a bit. In the Haynes manual it advises that if your car smokes, slacken off each injector pipe one at a time (using a rag to catch any diesel drips) and see if the smoking stops. I did this on the no. 2 injector and it didn't smoke as much!
So, do you think that the no.2 injector is blocked, causing the fuel to be forced out of the pipe because there is nowhere for it to go?
