How come the description of this cylinder head LDF500180COM states you have to use LVB500220 - 3 hole head gasket. I thought the correct sized gasket was set by knowing your highest piston protrusion.

Thinking of buying this head but am a little worried of the horror stories I hear of using these multi leaf metal gaskets.

Maybe the older style cylinder head with an Elring gasket might be safer, not sure whether you could still use an Elring with the newer head.

why not i use 3 hole elring, you do measure protrusion of piston or fit what was before ,3 hole fitted so you cant be wrong ,300s dont have weak heads or head gaskets its allways rad or leak that causes fault

Ok so what your saying is I could use an Elring gasket with the newer head.
They supply you with the thickest head gasket to allow no room for error.
Both agreed on radiator problems and leaks.

The newer head is same price as older head so I might use newer head with older Elring gasket as from what I have learned they are more tolerant of imperfect mating surfaces.

to be safe measure depth of valves from head surface is same as old head ,i see no point in using any other type of gasket theres no weakness like k series

Even if there is a slight difference between my old head valve stand down and the new head, as long as it is within the stated Landrover specs I should be ok to go by my piston protrusion?

Do you mean there is no point in changing from the original Elring head gasket to these multi leafs as there was never a problem with the Elrings?

as long as everthing within spec okay and yes to elring same gasket on 200 and they rarely went 300s dont without another reason in which case any gasket would go
