We paid Sovereign directly. We collected the car on 30th August, the had had it since mid-June for work they claimed would take 4 weeks. It wasn't until we started chasing them that they said it had been completed and asked for payment and promised to deliver the truck back to the original garage but as soon as we paid, radio silence.
Did you collect it from CSV Car Spa Valeting Centre on Parkfield Road, Telford?
They ask someone to sign an agreement when organising taking on the work. You need to get hold of a copy of that agreement from the legit garage, if they were asked to sign it. Hopefully they took a copy. Reason beng you need to confirm what was was agreed to be carried out. From there you can demand they fix/repair the car if they haven't done what was agreed. Problem with that is if you hand a car over to them again you may never see it again. In such cercumstances, with evidence taken from many others who have posted on this thread about the difficulties they have had, it may be possible to take to the small claims court to get a full or partual refund. It's not a straight forward case because you have to go through certain steps to do this. I would hope a wise court would see the problems involved and give a judgement in your favour.
The sammers watch and read this thread.

lf you take your vehicle to a garage for repair, and they subcontract the work out to another garage, surely it's the garage who took your car in the first place that should be sorting it out.

There was a case further back in this thread, where a Land Rover main dealer subcontracted a warranty engine rebuild on a Disco 4 to these people.

After the vehicle disappeared the main dealer was trying to bounce the responsibility on to the customer, passing on contact details and telling them to "call the repair garage as they have your vehicle"

l am not sure what happened with this one, the vehicles' owner agreed with me and was going to go back to the main dealer and complain.

But surely it's nothing to do with the customer if the dealer sent the vehicle somewhere else, unless the customer agreed to it.

The main dealer wasn't directly involved in that case. The garage that sold him the car, arranged for the scammers to collect the car from the main dealer, to get it fixed, after the main dealer had had a look at it. Main dealer was more expensive so the seller let the scammers have it as a cheaper alternative. Sadly he never got the car back. Last seen abandomed on the side of Sunbeam Street.

It's complex but it depends on who contracts the scammers to do the work. In the above it was the selling garage responsible for repair of a car they sold which broke not long after the sale. The seller contracted in the scammers, so the seller is responsible. Most of the time it's the vehicle owner who makes the 'repair' purchase from the scammers.

Hi Everyone,
So my partner and I went to the site in Telford on our way to Wales at the beginning of September, we saw his van which was in the workshop and was actually in tact however, apparently the battery was dead and there was an issue with the immobiliser which they were waiting for an electrician to come and fix. We left with the promise they would be in touch over the weekend and we could hopefully collect the van after our weekend in Wales. Low and behold, no contact was made and we have heard basically nothing since. I am in the process of raising a report with Action fraud and have also contacted Rip Off Britain although I am not too sure we will get a response from them. I am determined not to give up but my partner seems to be giving up hope. We are phoning the numbers constantly but they just do not answer, I cant believe there are people out there that do this to others. I am going to suggest my partner drives up there with some of his mates and just takes the van, if it is even still there / driveable.

Prithpal Virdee, of Finchfield Gardens, Wolverhampton, Jaspal Virdee, of Richmond Road, Wolverhampton, should be easier to find than the garages
Prithpal Virdee has also been charged by West Midlands Police with managing a company whilst bankrupt and 15 separate indictments of fraud by false representation, including claims he used customers’ bank card details to pay utility bills.

These people are playing the system like a violin, taking advantage of the fact that (amongst other things) a dissolved LTD company has no liabilities

The one thing that seems to work best is when someone buys one of their ebay listings for £1. That gives them the option to give negative feedback, stating they're a scam engine company from sunbeam street. Their work is poor and many people have been tricked into losing their vechicle when they blackmail you for more money. Search online to find out more.

Has anyone taken Sunbeam / other pseudonym to small claims? Did you get anywhere with it? No response to our official letter so that's the next step for us.

l think everything has been tried, but no harm in doing it again, they were in court earlier this year l believe.

lt's been going on for over ten years

Some have tried and taken advice but none have come back to say how they got on, if they went through with it. You will need to work out who is responsible, the scammer or the garage who helped you to find them. Its dependent on when the point of sale took place and if you contracted the scammers or the good garage did. The conversations and paperwork at that time will be important.

Did the scammers supply a receipt? Do you still have the bank transfer details you used to send the money to the scammers? Print out the bank tranfer record to keep. Also detail of the request to send money by transfer.

The amount of money the scammers are taking will require them to be vat registered. Do you have their vat number on any paperwork you have or the good garage has? You will need to get the good garage to save all info they have regarding the scammers to assit you. Like proof of calls and whats app calls.

Having a recorded letter ignored is good as it allows you to move to the next stage, if you stated the facts and requested them to fix it or you take it to a claim in court if ignored etc. If they're ignoring your calls then video record your phone screen when calling them on speaker phone option, as proof. The court will want to see the steps of contracting/purchasing the sale, payment and further correspondence between all. Also the advert found when first finding the scammers. What detail did it have etc. Print it.

Sovereign Automotive is a real company but not the scammers talked about on this fred. The scammers often copy the identity of a legit company or one thats closed. If you go after the scammers then you will need to make sure you fill in the claim against the correct company. You need to get hold of the contract they request signed before they take on the work. If the good garage has a copy you will need it. It should identfy the scammer company name. It my be xxx TA - like xxx Trading As, something else. They hide like this to make claims more difficult.

It would be wise to talk to someone who has more knowkedge of the legal situation and how you start a small claim, with respect to the difficulties of your specific case. Its not clean cut on who contracted and is therefore responsible. There's loads of companies who will charge to help with this. They have more formal ways of tracking down the scam company owner. No surprise there's also scam companies who work in this area who will take money and do nowt for it. Citizens advice would be a good start. If you have legal cover on insurance you could call them. Said to be free to call but the phone bill cost can be several sovs per minute.
