Landrover freelander tailgate handle

Hi.
Anyone got any suggestions regarding my Freelander tailgate handle.
I closed the tailgate a few days ago and now am unable to open it.
The handle seems to be stuck in the up position. i.e. level with the underside of the full unit.

spray some wd40 up and try and work it up and down it should come eventually ,they rust up

if that fails, you could press the emergency tailgate release button inside the vehicle to get it open.

remove the rear trim, undo the three bolts and remove the handle, you should then see what's wrong.

usually the little plastic pivot point snaps, can be repaired with a little patience and araldite

There's a self test mode which should allow you to open the rear door without the handle:
