Didn't know in which section to post this thread as it's not 'laning, it's not off-roading - it's ON-roading! I'm sure somebody will move it if it's in the wrong place!

Here is an interesting event for you, something unusual. A group of Land Rover enthusiasts have got together to raise a heap of funds for the worthy Help For Heroes charity, and at the same time have a bit of fun.

Held at the Motor Heritage Centre, Gaydon, Warwickshire, England, it's it’s an attempt to break the Guinness World Record™ for the Longest Land Rover Parade, previously set at Towcester Racecourse in Northants 2004.

Called CONVOY for HEROES they aim to have a convoy of 500 or more Land Rovers under the conditions set by Guinness World Records™. The record was set at 260 vehicles (set because it was first established in 2004 and there hadn’t been a record before that), with Series, Defenders, 101FC’s, Lightweights, Freelanders, Rangies and Discoveries all joining in. Now seven years on, with the Range Rover Sport thrown into the mix, there are an awful lot more Land Rover models out there, so achieving the goal of 500 should be a doodle … we hope!

23-24 April is the Easter weekend, so hopefully that will entice a few more owners to turn out as the Monday will obviously be a Bank Holiday, so no work!!!

The weekend however won’t just be confined to the world record attempt as there will be a host of attractions due to be announced in the New Year. Until then, have a butcher’s at the website for more details - www.convoy4heroes.org.uk

Hope to see you there!!!

Need your feedback folks:-

I suggested to the organisers of CONVOY for HEROES before Christmas about having at least four convoys starting at the extremities of north, south, east and west all heading to Gaydon - which is roughly in the middle. With the routes pre-published in mags/forums and an ETA at several motorway services or truck stops en route, individuals/clubs/forum groups like Landyzone could then join whichever convoy is nearest to them at those set points. By the time they reach Gaydon, with flag flying and horns blaring, potentially they could be 100+ strong. That'll get some attention!!!

If on the other hand nobody was waiting at ? truck stop at ? time, then the convoy would simply move out and get back on the road.

If the idea goes down well with those attending the world record attempt, the same could be arranged from four more points of the compass - NE, SE, SW and NW. Depends entirely on how much interest is forthcoming from those particular regions (i.e. Tyneside/Weasrside from NE) as it would save them heading over to the north to south or east to west routes.

Have I explained myself properly ... or are you totally confused like wot I am?

So, what do you think of my cunning plan?

Assuming my series 3 is running by then - I'll be there - if not I'll be in my mate's 110 for this. Would be rude not to with it being just down the Fosse!

I'd love to come along, but not sure i can justify the expense, sadly...

From what i can work out, it's £12 + £12 for entry for 2 adults, £15 for 1 nights camping & £25 to take part in the convoy... admittedly, the convoy ticket gets you entry to the museum (I think), but unless you're there the day before (hence the 1 night's camping) there probably won't be time to visit it.

Don't get me wrong though - I'm more than happy to help cover costs & donate a bit extra, but £64 + £50 of diesel is a bit more than I can justify spending, if you know what I mean...

It does seem like a lot of peeps are organising "charity events"?? That seem to net them an awful lot of profit for themselves. If they advertised it as been run entirely by voluntunteers and 100% of the profits to The charity concerned. I'm sure that more people would be happy to contribute..

Doesn't say much for their organisation that they're onlt expecting 500 landys out of tens of thousands that are out there.

im up for this know a couple of other lads up for it too. and if the disco doesnt start i'll get a tow....
its all for a good cause!!!!

Have you taken a family of 4 out anywhere recently. Everything costs a fortune. Usually I get bored as well doing the park visits and attractions.

This seems a reasonable way to spend a weekend and it will be doing things I never get bored of, all for a good cause.

yes BOB,HERO'S.dont see you doing much for your country, cept murdering trees.:rolleyes:

the best help for heroes would be to bring em back home....they should never have been sent by a bunch of lying cheating bastid polititions in the first place.....AND.....those that have been hurt shouldn't have to rely on handouts....its a DISGRACE.
Young lads are being blown to bits because feckin polititions are to afraid to lose face
