Im due to be on the road within the next few months, and apart from my CB radio that I've installed in my land rover, I find myself getting fed up with the constant "GNEEEEEEEEEEERRRRR" of the 2.25 petrol.

I dont want to fit a CD player, DAB or anything fancy. All I want is a simple FM radio which will sit nicely in the dash or tucked up under it, to which I can run a 12V feed.

I need a radio which has its own speakers, etc. It cant break the bank and doesnt have to pipe out too many decibels of bass, like my mates have in their Punto's and Golfs. lol

I've done a search on ther net, and you can only buy DIN radio's, which take up too much space, need a front for it, and need seperate speakers.

Do any of you guys know if there is a simple radio which I can plumb straight into 12V or a cigarette lighter?

Many thanks. :)

I think you will have to go for a pukka din fit stereo with a pair of speakers in the rear of the tub somehwere. You can get a pod that installs on the passenger sids of the lower dash or just to the right of the steering column.

If you do a search, there is a thread on here where someone put 6x9s in a box and secured them to a dog guard.

I would want to invest in some decent sound proofing before investigating stereo installation. If you don't do this, then the stereo will have to be on very loud for you to hear it when the Landy is doing its top speed of 55mph ;)

i though old fashioned FM is being fooked off sometime next year isn't it and everything is going DAB from what i have hered ;)

I don't think they are turning off FM until about 2015. Also remember that turning off analogue TV signals had the year changed three times.

I went to buy a DAB radio a couple of years back and was told they had been all the rage but were becoming increasingly unavailable cos eveyrthing was switching to internet radio - now there seem to be more DAB radios back on the market:confused::confused: Perhaps the powers that be have realised that not everywhere has internet coverage??

check out motorbike stereo syetems. I got a small amplifier about 3 inches square and it came with an FM radio installed (no speakers tho) not the best quality but good enough for a little motorbike

I like my radio with a usb connection .I've got an 8gb memory stick packed with about 60 albums of mostly **** music .

Some speakers to consider :
Car Van Boat Caravan Truck Home 112mm 2-Way Pod: Amazon.co.uk: Car & Motorbike

Pyle PYLE PLMR24 3.5-Inch 200 Watt 3-Way Weather Proof Mini Box Speaker System (White) (Pair): Amazon.co.uk: Electronics

They look a great idea. They might even fit in the roof area between the top of the side panels and the top of the roof. You could even hide the wiring in the interior roof channel.

Four of those would probably make enough noise to at least keep you entertained in the traffic jams :)

I have been doing some learning about audio stuff over the last few weeks ,I still know very little .

You most likely know way more than me but this link might help explain a few questions you haven't thought of yet . The Basics: Understanding Car Audio Systems, Part 1 - Edmunds.com :).
