can any one help me my 200 tdi defender gearbox has given up  will a 300 series disco gear box bolt striaght on in its place

Thats the kind of answer I like, no sarcastic comments or **** take, just straight to the point.

length of input shaft and bell housing,as the 300 engine sits forward like in disco gearbox is same length, you can get short bell housing r380s that where made to fit 200 but are few and far between

200 defender engine sits at rear of engine bay and so has short bellhousing etc,200 and 300 disco like 300 and v8 defender engines sit forward and so have long ones as gearbox is allways in same place on all vehicles

has any done one before ? is it hard ? if so could some one send me a link or is there a step by step guide on here?

done what ,ive done most different configurations ,converting disco box to fit defender, fitting 300s into earlier vehicles and converting disco box to fit that job etc without special tools access to parts needed second hand etc your going to need either 200 56a defender gear box or any other 50a defender 4 clyinder engine gearbox ,whats up with your old box that might be fixable ,most common fault is the mainshaft splines going into transfer box wear loosing drive eventually after a long time cluncking setting off and during gear changes or has it run low on poor oil and buggered

i brought it with the clutch gone popped a new clutch in there ! and it drives but every so often (more often) it clonks very louds and locks up? normaly on full lock?
at first thought it was the front axle but stipped it and found no faults !

full lock wouldnt effect gear box ,center diff in trans box maybe,cv most likely especially if not pulled through drive member properly and shimmed with circlip ,cv center has to turn in exact center line of swivel housing, remove props one at a time and try in diff lock ,ensure diff lock is releasing by jacking one front wheel up and seeing if it turns,

well my mate who looked at it said it was the transfer box !(i'm no expert) we changed the front axle with another axle (as we had a old landy for spares) and the problem was still there!

Have I missed summat?
since when have T-boxes been in the front axle?

"yu gotta problem with your brakes mate"

"why is it still there when I emptied the ash tray?"

:confused?

yeah you have missed something. if you read my post properly you will see that i said i have been told it might be the transfer box, and that i have changed the front axle. two seperate things i am talking about.

unfortunately, im not as clued up as i would like to be. hence i am here, asking peoples opinion. there is really no need to get high and mighty in your knowledge and start with the sarcasm!
