hi all,
just wondering has anyone ever made or had a trailer with a drive going to it?? Im assuming the power would come of the back of the transfer box via shafts and carrier bearings to a land rover axle under the trailer?
A video on youtube of a series with one on it really got me thinking that the same thing could be done to a defender 110????
Any input would be appreciated!?!?

Did the old Landys not have a P.T.O. at the back, which I assume is where the drive would come from:confused::confused:

Bolt on PTO similar to an overdrive on the back of the t/box, rare as hens teeth now.

Mostly used for running Gennys and pumps, not heard of a driven trailer set-up......would need an extra diff like a Fender centre diff

Actually maybe it wouldn't....

that's a grand setup alright!!! still wondering though would the output shaft from the back of the transfer box turn at the same speed as the drive shafts on a defender in order to drive another axle? probably similar to the 6x6 defender just that the extra axle would be on the trailer?????

a drive taken straight from rear of mainshaft as std pto wouldnt be the same speed as drive from the two output shafts from t/box, output shafts would be slower depending on t/box ratio

thanks jamesmartin, are you fairly certain bout that or had you tried something similar?? Could save me the trouble of hours of time spent going down the wrong road!!

absolutely positive ,there is a reduction through t/box in high or low ,have you thought of a hydraulic motor

I see the 101 trailer pto shaft rotates at the same speed as the props on the vehicle whether in high or low box. I bet they are a bit rare.

Tractors followed this idea in 50s or 60s iirc but when the vehicle gets into a sticky bit the trailer had a tendency to jack knife into the vehicle, think its one of those great ideas in theory but fails in practise sadly.....but hydraulic drive could be an idea, hydraulic rams between trailer and towing vehicle controlling angle of trailer ie moxy steering style... Need someone with too much time and money to go put this into practise!
